Lola (or Laurel or Nora or Rola) has made great friends with Maya and they seem to be inseparable.
To my knowledge Lola knows nothing about Premiership football but she still loves Maya's new T-shirt.
Tonight we relaxed by the pond for a while. Anna and Tommy are very comfortable together, which is nice to see.
But hang on, look a bit closer at that apparently innocuous photograph and what's going on between Yogi and Maya on the far bank?
Yes, something is going on...
Yeah... Maya is eating a pigeon she'd just caught and Yogi wanted his share. She eats everything apart from a pile of wing and tail feathers and the feet... and she is given good food every day.
There was a time that Maya was a gorgeous little innocent puppy before the pack took her... I worry for Lola.
Lola is still in that gorgeous stage.

Today I took Lola up the road to see Pajama Girl and her family. This was the first time in the six weeks since she joined us.
Lola wasn't all that interested although her big sister was keen to say hello. She got a lot of cuddles from PG who saved her a couple of months ago when she and her brother got so sick.
Her mum wasn't around so maybe I'll take Lola back again tomorrow!
No, Lola's home is with us now and she's become inseparable with Maya.
And with the daughter, although they have their ups and downs. Personally, I think that the daughter is of an age where she should realise that dangling her hair in front of a playful puppy will only end one way. I leave them to sort such things out between themselves.
So far we have been incident free for a few weeks and Anna and Maya seem to be keeping an uneasy truce. The usual suspects play every morning. Anna stays out of it... she just doesn't understand 'play' and it seems to upset her.
The 'lawn' is taking a hammering.
As is the outside sofa.
I had this problem once when two rabbits turned into 10. The kittens were cute for awhile, but once I realised they meant no lawn they were all sent back to the farm. Admittedly you cannot or don't want to send your dogs to this 'farm' but perhaps not adopting new strays might be an idea?
^ I must admit I am often disappointed at the state of our garden, especially when considering we have a full time 'gardener'. But, the pleasure it gives me to give these dogs a life and watch them all play together far outweighs any enjoyment I could gain from having a perfect lawn.
Besides, my croquet days are behind me now and I prefer a more sedate lifestyle these days.
Yogi continues to be a bad influence on Lola and I fear he will take her away from me in the end.
Today he found a small rat snake out front and I was way too late to the scene to help the poor thing. He shakes these snakes with such tremendous violence that they break apart, and sadly Lola was fascinated by his antics... but she kept her distance.
I've learnt that if I get to the scene too late to save the snake it's better to just let Yogi finish things. He will kill a mortally injured snake far quicker and more humanely than I can.
This is how it started with Maya... she was once a gorgeous innocent puppy before Yogi took her. It's happening again.
Anyway, this is Anna's thread and she's doing OK. It's as hot and still as hell in Korat right now so I leave the fan on in the gardener's kitchen. Anna and Yogi sleep under the small relief it provides from this awful heat.
And I'm left sitting next to Lola and Maya who are great mates, and long may it last. Maya sleeps separated from Anna these days and everything is more relaxed... touch wood.
Lola still sleeps in my bedroom and I love her to bits... but the Kommandant has been making noises...

^ I love rabbit pie.
I'm going to get my mum to dig out some pics of my ferrets to scan and post up. Fond memories.
Anyway, I'm on the eve of yet another trip to Bangkok to sort out my daughter's bladdy passport documents, so an early night. It just never ends.
I know one thing, I'm gonna miss having this little girl sleeping alongside me for the next couple of nights. We've bonded strongly and I love her to bits.
I've never before known a dog to always sleep on her back?

^ Most dogs roll on there backs when cow or sheep shit is involved... How long have you had that mattress?![]()
Its a funny thing memory, how looking at something or remembering an event sometimes associates it with a smell...Looking at that bedroom...I just recalled the pungent odour of Billy Goats![]()
Does it not confuse the dogs when you let them sleep in the bedroom and then kick them outside? Surely setting a standard from day one would make more sense?
^ It's a good point, Willy.
The puppies I have brought in off the street to live with us are usually taken from their mums a bit young... once we've decided to give one a home I bring them in immediately, away from the perils of traffic and a myriad of other dangers they face. These guys need a bit of comfort at first. Also, I don't like to let them sleep with the pack until they are fully socialised. I can supervise this in the daytime.
Having said that, we've had Lola for nearly seven weeks now and she's made friends with all the others and is more than ready to sleep with them at night.
I guess I just like to have a puppy around the house, they are great fun and why not enjoy the time? Also, having them live in the house a while gives the chance to fully house train which may be useful in the future, whatever that may bring.
I go away to Norway for work next week and that will be a natural break for Lola to start sleeping with the pack at night... it will happen anyway once I'm away.
My experience is that they adapt very quickly and soon prefer to stay with the others at night, especially this time of year when it's as hot as hell in the house. Maya adapted to the change no problem and now knows that she can sneak in the house for a couple of hours in the evening once the Kommandant has retired, but not in the daytime.
You're a brave man talking about mattresses after posting about your nocturnal emissions!
What childhood memory does the stench of that sewage filter you sleep on evoke, I wonder?![]()
^ The mind boggles that a picture of a bedroom makes Reg think of goats. Maybe he has some Welsh blood?
^ Here's six more little words Shutree...
Leg, leg, leg, leg body, head.
Then cut them in half. Couldn't be easier.
If it's like shrimps, my wife will take the heads. Body and legs for me, in a pie.
^ You seem alone on these memories, mate.
Anyway, the unvitation is open ended. Whenever you guys are free.
Nah, you and 'Georgie' keep this stuff between yourselves!
Bladdy hell Chitty, maybe he's got a job with these guys?
