I always ask the daughter to send half an hour sitting with the dogs when I'm away. This is when you spot any potential health problems but also, they just love the human company. The gardener takes good care of them with food and fresh water every day (and also our 'outside' dogs), the wife gives them a chewy treat every morning but isn't really so interested, but they really need as well is company and attention.

Yesterday my wonderful young daughter sent me a batch of photos so I can see how they're all getting along in my absence.

Of course Maya and Lola are centre of attention.

And there's Anna who must have climbed down off her chair and followed the daughter down to the pond to join in. That really is great to see.

You wouldn't think they have fresh water every day, iced in the hot season.

It looks as though Lola went into full-on mental mode, as is her way. At least they're getting plenty of exercise while I'm not there to give them their daily walk.

These five are the centre of the gang and play every evening when it cools down. It seems that they're getting on just fine without me.

Tommy and Anna stay on the periphery and just watch the play.

I worry about Anna a lot when I go away... that she will be lonely without me and that she won't join in and socialise with the pack. And also that Maya may attack Anna with their master away and unable to give out any punishment. These pictures have allayed my fears as she seems to be getting much more friendly and appears to be trying to join in. It has taken over two years to get to this stage.

I used to panic when Anna and Maya got this close. There's history between these two but they seem to be sorting it out.

There's life in the old dog yet!

Maybe I should start worrying about Tommy instead? He seems to be on his own a lot now... although i know that the daughter will have also noted this and will have given hims some extra attention. She really is in tune with our animals and never ceases to amaze me with her observations.

Lola in the middle of it again. We've only had her for a year but she's become an integral member of the pack, much loved by all. (apart from Anna of course... they have yet to break the ice but at least there's no nastiness)

The dogs seem to enjoy my rotting dead tree stump micro-habitat area. It was supposed to be for insects, reptiles and amphibians.

It's good to see that the gardener has been keeping the pond topped off. We lose a lot of water through evaporation this time of year, before the rains come.

    Yogi with his harem.

Yes, I can sleep easy after seeing these photos, which is just as well because I've been offered an extra weeks work tagged on to the end of this trip, turning an initial three week trip into a five week trip. A nice start to the year.

I am so looking forward to seeing Anna join in the play one day. I'm starting to believe that it will actually happen. Anna seems to want to join in but she just doesn't know how.

But not when they're in full-on mental mode. I don't think Anna will ever get involved then.

    Happy dogs!

To be honest, they don't seem to be missing me at all...

They do seem much happier, a lot less sexually depraved and much better behaved with I'm guessing the gardener now firmly in the alpha male role, taking control of and guarding the outdoor dining table with his ya dong and scrotum flicking middle finger

These zoomies must all be over by the time Mendy gets around to sinking his yaa dong and photographing whichever mutt"s nuts are cradled on the tabletop.

I thought you would have rigged up your security cameras to give you a live feed fix 24/7 whilst bobbing around in the foggy firths of the Hebrides

^ My security camera is going 24/7 and you motivated me to dig out the footage from when the daughter took the photos.

She doesn't really have that ridiculous Thai habit of doing the Victory sign for photos but must have just done this to the camera because she knows how much it annoys me.

I noticed that, they seem very relaxed in my absence. I'm not sure what to feel about that.

You have a good memory... I stopped the gardener flicking Tommy's scrotum a few years ago because it made me feel a bit uneasy. Poor Max has no scrotum and if he tried it with Yogi I think that he'd lose his index finger.

We gave up watering the grass during the dry season many years ago. With the first rains it'll turn green almost immediately.

    A controversial post that, Cyrille.

I've never seen 'ya dong' spelt with two 'A's before.

^^it's not only Thai, it's an Asian thing. It also stands for "peace", or that's what I was told when I was a kid. Filipinos, Vietnamese, Koreans, Japanese, Indonesians, Chinese do it too.

Although nowadays, with the popularity of K-pop & K-dramas, the "heart-su" is also used. For heart-su (heart-soo), the thumb & forefinger make a small heart.

Wasn't Gareth Bale doing that a decade ago?

Looks to me like the Koreans must have stolen it from the Welsh.

    ^^I've fixed the heart-Su pic.

I don't know abt Gareth Bale. Does he do the heart thingy (use of both hands), similar to Angel di Maria?

As for the Korean heart-Su, I've seen it in K-dramas since 2000 or 2002, so I think that's earlier than Gareth Bale.

^it's due to social media. On FB, you can "like" (thumbs up) a pic or "love" the pic (heart emoji).

The use of heart-Su is like you're "hearting" a pic, person, etc. The use of the big heart (both arms/ hands) is used when you want a bigger audience to see it (bcos of distance). Some football players use it, like Angel di Maria.

Some couples also use it for their lovey-dovey pics. The boy & girl each make a half of the heart. I've seen it among my millennial hike-mates & colleagues.
