Any locals care to point a newcomer in the right direction?

There's not that much to.....enough entertainment for a couple of nights. You'll easily find the local pubs with live music, because that's all there are.
There's a big temple 21km out of town, it's up a hill, built into the side of a mountain
There's an uninhabited island you have to rent a boat on the lake by the park
As you get further out you got a good view of the hospital
There's an old temple on the island
Thanks for the nice post Pat. Normal crap from Chico..
In town, the only action I could find was around Golden Pond Disco. That is well-known and not hard to find.
Next to the disco is a bar/restaurant with outdoor seating that afforded viewing of the disco customers' comings and goings without the mind-numbing music.
There is also a small hotel, if one needs to rest, for a short time. However, this was damaged in the flooding last year and was closed at the time of my visit.
There is another bar with a band, if I remember correctly, just around the corner. Sorry, I don't remember the name. Just start at Golden Pond and have a look around.
For daytime activities, the temple as mentioned by DJ Pat is worth a visit. On the way there I stopped at one of Sakon Nakhon's indigo dyeing workshops. Interesting to see it being made, although not especially cheap to buy. A good selection of Sakon Nakhon's famous cottons can be found outside the front of the main temple in town.
Enjoy.
Hope you don't mind me saying Pat, but if they put a bit of Just For Men on that monk, then it wold be the spitting image of you.
Excellent response Pat, (and Shutree) green sent.
Anyway, welcome to the Buffalo Board, Rufus...
Are you still there?...
