    August 18/19 2015 IFGG Results
Although numbers were down our August IFGG 2 day IFGG proved that we do not always need a large field to enjoy close competition or social interaction.Due respect to those who could not attend of course.
Wednesday we teed off at 9 am at Singha in windy hot conditions playing a Stroke round. The course was in excellent condition and the greens running at 9.5 tested us all as it was a direct contrast to our slower inconsistent Udon courses.
Per Hansen and Rex King battled it out with only 2 net strokes separating them at the end. Per with 74,Rex 76 and Chuck in third spot with 82.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 holes went to Peter Hellery and Per.

Crazy Hat avoidance had been the major focus for the higher scores which narrowly was won by Peter.
Our usual post game social interaction continued with drinks and pool at the Blue Bar, then an enjoyable meal at Di Dine followed by a short stop at another bar, before calling it a day quite early compared to some months.
The Ubolrat Dam provides discount Green Fee rates on Wednesdays to Elderly Thai Golfers so we decided to give our usual Blue Bar breakfast a miss and instead tee off at 8am to avoid the expected crowd.
Hot humid conditions greeted us as we commenced our Stable ford round and the opening holes were anything but well played, suggesting maybe we should have not hit the sack the previous night as early. But then Night Owls Paul, Tony and Graham were missing this trip.
Overall scores at Ubolrat were below expectations due in no small way to the adjustment required playing a tighter course, plus the slower speed of the greens compared to Singha.
After a disastrous 3 hole start Terry Aston put a good front nine 18 points together enabling him to steal the win with a miserable 32 points. Peter Hellery with an 18 point back nine finished strong with 29 points to come second with Rex King 28 points third.
Rex and Terry won the 2 par 3 closest to the pin holes.
At the conclusion in working out the Overall 2 day winner with the assistance of Chuck Mc Cormick it worked out that we had a 3 way tie, the first time ever in the 4 years of the IFGG.
Per, Rex and Terry all had 62 overall points.

Chuck got to take home the Crazy Hat and the Spoon but credit to him for persevering as he has been out with back and neck issues.
A highlight of the 2 day Comp however was Chuck getting presented with his Award by Singha Pk for his recent Hole in One at the course. You could say he was quite chuffed as he should have been in receiving such a great prize.

Winner of the last 3 months of IFGG is Rex King.
Peter Hellery won the March/April /May 3 months.

Other Scores- Hermanus Claussen 33,Rex King 31,Gordon Caygill 30,Graham Firth & Ari Jylha 26,Gary Parks 18.

Thursday 27th August 2015 Udon Golf / Ubolrat Results
Unpredictable Thailand was on show today when upon arriving at Ubolrat Dam Golf Course we were met with cloudy skies and drizzling rain. However after 10 minutes when the 10 of us teed off it had subsided and we enjoyed a pleasant round. It was great to have the company of Golfers from Khon Kaen and Nong Khai joining us for this the first of our weekly Thursday rounds.
Thursday it appears is not overly busy which helped us complete our rounds in just under 4 hours.
The course in spite of the heavy rain that had fallen was in reasonable condition.
Peter Hellery continued his good form in winning the day with 36 points plus one of the par 3 holes. Graham Firth 34 points plus one par 3 hole finished second with Terry Aston on count back coming in 3rd.
Once our new members get used to the course we are expecting very competitive rounds.
For those interested in joining us for Thursdays please advise in advance and arrive at the course at 8 20am for the draw.
Monday 31st Udon Golf Society Round at Srithani. 8 20 am balls in the hat with an 8 30am tee off.

31st August 2015 Udon Golf Society at Srithani Forest Golf Course.
Weather forecast of Thunderstorms and rain this morning was less than heartening which I know put quite a few of our members off from attending our regular Monday Society Round.
However the Golf Gods were kind to the 6 of us diehards who fronted up to challenge the course regardless of the conditions. Credit to the management that the course was in OK condition.
Terry Aston had a few lucky breaks to win the day with 37 points with Ian Barrett who has just returned from Canada pipping Ari Jylha on count back for second with both on 35 points.

Next Monday 2nd September 8 30am tee off will be our Monthly Medal Stroke Round at Srithani.
This Wednesday 8 30am tee off for those interested we will be playing at Victory Pk.

Udon Golf Society Results Monday 14th September 2015.
Good roll up this morning at Srithani Golf Course for our regular weekly Society round.
Warm conditions with temperature in the mid 30's added to by the humidity that always seem to be high at Srithani.
Stable ford format with a difference with a Winner plus hidden pairs to break the normal routine.
The fairways were ok today as was the greens but trying to determine where the fairway ended and the rough commenced was very difficult. The rough due to the rain we have had is excessive but hopefully they will cut it back sooner than later.
Rex King with 40 points won the day plus the Closest to the Pin on the par 3 17th hole.
Ian Barrett 38 points and Terry Aston 36 won the hidden pairs.
Shot of the day went to Peter Hellery with a 30 yard pitch into the hole on the par 5 15th.
Other Scores- Ari Jylha 34,Graham Firth 31,Peter Hellery 30,Gary Parks & Jereld Sawyer 27,Gordon Caygill 24, Joe Mc Gowan 24.

Weather permitting this Wednesday at Victory Pk Golf Course for an 8 30am tee off.

16th September 2015 Udon Society Victory Park Results
Dry conditions at Victory Pk prevailed this morning as we teed off for our regular Wednesday Sports Day round.
There is a Tournament scheduled for this coming Saturday so they had sanded lightly most of the greens which for some of us were difficult to read the speed. Fairways were fine but some of the rough areas needed to be marked as GUR. Overall though the Course as usual was a true Golfers test and today was no exception.
Ari Jylha 37 points repeated last week's win with Graham Firth 33 points in second place.
Other Scores; Gordon Caygill 32,Peter Hellery 31,Gary Parks 30,Terry Aston & Joe Mc Gowan 28 points.
Closest to the Hole on the par 3 holes went to Joe Mc Gowan and Gordon Caygill.

21st September 2015 Udon Golf Society Results
Hot and humid conditions at Srithani Forest Golf Course this morning as we teed off for a Stable ford round for our weekly Society Round.
A cool breeze fortunately came through mid way through the round which helped at least a few of us complete the round.
Fairways were in ok condition but Greens were below standard although it can be seen they are trying to get them up to scratch.
Mr. Consistent, aka Graham Firth made light of the conditions and the course to record a most impressive 38 points to win the day easily. Jereld Sawyer with 35 points finished second with Rex King and Peter Hellery both on 34 points in third position.
Other scores were; Terry Aston 32,Ari Jylha 26 & Chuck Mc Cormick 24 points.
Closest to the Pin on the Par 3 12th hole was won by Rex King.

September IFGG 2 day competition this Wednesday and Thursday so no organized local competition on for Udon Golf for the rest of this week.

    September 2015 IFGG Results
The forecast Thunderstorm and rain thankfully did not eventuate this morning when we teed off at Singha Park in Khon Kaen.
Course was in good condition except for the rough that hasn't been cut for the past two weeks.
It was a very warm day and the wind certainly added a degree of difficulty to the round.
Fairways were excellent but foreign for most of us who are used to longer grass. The putting surface again was top class but not easy to adjust to for those used to the slower Udon greens.
If our group played the course more often I'm sure we would improve significantly.

Guest player Jereld Sawyer the days winner with 39 points was in Golfer's heaven with the wide open fairways that enabled him to unleash a few 300 yard drives.
Gene Coffman a regular at Singha also guesting showed the benefit of his course knowledge finishing second with 35 points.

Other Scores: Rex King 34, Ian Barrett 33, Gordon Caygill & Terry Aston 31,Chuck Mc Cormick 29, Graham Firth 24,Peter Hellery 22.

Closest to the Pin on the Par 3 13th was won by Gene Coffman.

We move to Ubolrat tomorrow for the 2nd day to determine the overall winner.Rex King looms as a likely winner with his overall consistency.

    24th September 2015 IFGG Results
9am tee off this morning at Ubolrat Dam Course for the second day of our September IFGG.
Hot humid weather once again prevailed which is fairly normal for this time of the year.
The Ubolrat Course was in good condition unlike the overall form of our group who struggled throughout.
An indication of this was the fact Rex King with only 30 points won the day and subsequently the overall 2 day competition. Chuck Mc Cormick came second on count back from Terry Aston with both having 29 points.
Others Scores; Gordon Caygill 28,Graham Firth 25,Peter Hellery 21 points.
Rex King also won the only Closest to the Pin on the Par 3 12th Hole.
Overall Scores and Positions- Rex King 64,Terry Aston 60,Gordon Caygill 59,Chuck Mc Cormick 58, Graham Firth 49,Peter Hellery 43.(Ian Barrett 33 points only played the first day)

28th September 2015 Udon Golf Society Results.
Extremely hot and humid conditions at Srithani Forest Golf Course this morning as 10 of us teed off for our regular weekly Society Round.
The course is without a doubt the most humid in Udon and this morning was no exception. Two members did not complete their rounds and a few others certainly contemplated doing the same.
Course conditions are certainly not at a high level at the moment with the rough in a major need of a cut and the greens at best a 5/10.This was highlighted by the low scores recorded with only Ian Barrett with 36 points playing to par to win the day. Graham Firth with 33 points finished second.
Other Scores; Ari Jylha 31,Chuck Mc Cormick & Rex King 30,Terry Aston 26,Joe Mc Gowan 23,Peter Hellery 22,Gary Parks & Gordon Caygill both N/R.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 holes went to Graham Firth and Chuck Mc Cormick.

30th September 2015 Udon Golf Victory Pk Results
Hot and humid conditions prevailed once again as we teed off at Victory Pk this morning. There is no doubt the current hot and humid conditions is having an effect on the scores recorded.
The course was in ok condition although they are still working on the rough plus a couple of sand bunkers. Not easy to adjust to the speed of the greens as there is a degree of inconsistency which of course for us Udon Golfers is the norm playing on so many different courses.
The front nine holes were somewhat draining but the back nine proved the bigger test with the humidity at its peak.
Peter Hellery with 32 points won the day narrowly from Joe Mc Gowan with 31 points. If Joe was able to play more regularly there is no doubt his game and handicap would improve greatly.
Other Scores; Ari Jylha & Graham Firth 30,Gary Parks 28,Terry Aston 26.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 hole went to Joe Mc Gowan.

5th October 2015 Udon Golf Society Medal Round
Warm conditions but not over bearing as we teed off at Srithani this morning for our October Medal Round. Good to welcome David Exley back to the group following a long break back in the UK.
With the recent heavy rain the course was slow with minimal to zero run in the fairways. Greens were patchy as well, not yet recovered from the coring and sanding.
Regardless of this there were some excellent scores recorded with Graham Firth narrowly beating Ari Jylha on count back, both on 69. Terry Aston and David Exley also tied with 72 each as did Rex King and Gary Parks tied on 75. Chuck Mc Cormick stood alone on 79, but Peter Hellery and Joe Mc Gowan completed the run of ties with both recording 83.
Graham Firth completed a super round by also winning the only Closest to the Pin on the Par 3 designated hole.

12th October 2015 Udon Golf Society Results.
The best weather conditions for some time welcomed our Society Group this morning when we teed off at Srithani Golf Forest for our regular Monday Round.
We had a guest for the round in Richard Cook from Perth in Australia who really enjoyed his participation.
Course was surprisingly ok considering the amount of rain that had fallen over the previous few days. The 6th and 7th Greens however are far from ok as they have been cored and sanded and it was pot luck if you holed out from anything over 5 feet.
Terry Aston with 38 points won the day from consistent Graham Firth with 36 points. Ari Jylha pipped Richard Cook on count back for 3rd with both recording 34 points.
Dead eye Dick aka Rex King won the only Closest to the Pin on the 12th par 3 hole.

Other Scores; David Exley & Rex King 32,Gary Parks 28,Paul Samme 25,Peter Hellery 24,Chuck Mc Cormick 22.
Wednesday some of us will be playing Victory Pk, if you're interested join us for an 8 30am tee off.

19th October 2015 Udon Golf Society Results.
Fabulous weather this morning at Srithani Forest Golf Course as we teed off for our regular Monday Society Round. The temperature on the back nine certainly had an effect on some of us as it was very humid and draining.
Sports Day rates applied which at 350 baht is a realistic figure.
Course overall was ok, except for the Greens which are mostly in a state of repair.
Anders Lincoln fresh from his return from Sweden played great to win the day with 39 points closely followed by David Exley with an equally impressive round with 38 points. Graham Firth with 35 consistent points finished third.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 12th hole went to David Exley.

Other Scores were; Rex King 33,Terry Aston 32,Ari Jylha 31,Peter Hellery 30,Gary Parks 24.
With most our group involved in the IFGG October competition in Khon Kaen there are no organized games scheduled for the rest of the week in Udon.
Next Monday at Srithani for our next Society Round,8 15am balls in the hat.

    21/22nd October 2015 IFGG Results.

Extremely hot conditions when we teed off at 11am this morning at Singha Pk.
Loads of fluid required to be consumed during the round to avoid dehydration.
Course in great condition in preparation for a Tournament that commences tomorrow.
The greens although not as fast as we have experienced in the past were still a major challenge for many of us.
However going by scores recorded quite a few players rose to the occasion to record excellent scores.
Paul Samme with 70 net won the day narrowly
from a re surging Gary Parks with 72 net.
Our low handicapper Rex King also showed his class with 74 net in third position.
Rex also won the Par 3 13th Closest to the Pin hole by almost recording a hole in one.

Tony Jones still adjusting to the hot conditions earned the right to wear the Crazy hat tomorrow with the highest score.
Other Scores; Bennie Gudmundsson 75,David Exley 76,Terry Aston & Peter Hellery 82, Per Hansen 85, Chuck Mc Cormick 86, Tony Jones 94,Gordon Caygill N/R

    Dancoon 22nd
A couple of our group turned up a touch over done for this morning's 2nd day round at Dancoon Golf Course after a social outing last night in Khon Kaen. The hot conditions prevailed again which was no surprise but did affect quite a few members scores.
Dancoon Course was in ok condition re fairways and bunkers but the greens that are still recovering from the coring and sanding certainly made putting difficult.
Terry Aston after a poor showing at Singha reversed that with a 38 point round today to win the day. Rex King as to be expected was not far off his par with 34 points to finish 2nd with Gordon Caygill in 3rd spot with 33 points.
Par 3 Closest to the Pin went again to Rex King.

Other Scores; Paul Samme & Per Hansen 30, David Exley & Gary Parks 28,Tony Jones & Chuck McCormick 26, Benni Gudmundsson & Peter Hellery 25. more to get used to the current climate.

28th October 2015 Udon Golf / Victory Pk Round
Hot conditions at Victory Pk Golf Course this morning when 8 of us teed off for a Stable ford round. The ground staff had not held back in watering the course as there was minimal run on the fairways and the bunker were compact. The Greens have not fully recovered from the extensive sanding and hole positioning was most difficult as reflected in the low scores recorded.
Gene Coffman with 32 points won the day from Rex King 30 in second and Per Hansen 3rd on count back with 27 points.
Gene and Gordon Caygill shared the closest to the pin on the par 3 16th courtesy of the group we let in moving the flag.

Overall Scores; Gene Coffman 32,Rex King 30,Per Hansen, John Cooke & Ari Jylha 27,Gordon Caygill 26,Terry Aston 25,Paul Samme 23.
Next Udon Golf organized round will be our November Medal Round next Monday 2nd at Srithani Golf Course. Balls in the hat at 8 15 am, Tee off follows.

2nd November 2015 Udon Golf Society Medal Round Results.
Good conditions prevailed at Srithani Golf Course today when 11 of us teed off for the final Monthly Medal Round of 2015.

16th November 2015 Udon Golf Society Results.
Extremely hot conditions this morning at Srithani Golf Course as a good roll up of members plus Aussie Guest Peter Johnson teed off for our weekly Society Round. The course was in reasonable condition so there was no excuses for poor scores except of course for the oppressive heat.
John Cooke with 35 points won the day on count back from Paul Samme. Rex King on 33 points came in third with Peter Johnson in fourth on count back with 32 points.
Other Scores were; Gary Parks & Peter Hellery 32,David Exley & Chuck Mc Cormick 31,Tony Jones 30,Terry Aston 29,Graham Firth 28,Benni Gudmundsson & Gordon Caygill 26 points.
Closest to the Pin on the 2 designated Par 3 Holes went to John Cooke and Paul Samme.
Next Monday will be our Monthly Medal Playoffs with finalists teeing off at 8 15am followed by the rest of our group who did not qualify.

23rd November 2015 Udon Golf Society Medal Playoffs.
Srithani was all go this morning with many groups in attendance for Sports Day. It was crowded to the point that there was initially not enough caddies to go around.
However as is generally the case it was fairly easy going once groups got sorted.

The Course was in ok condition, Temperature wise it was warm to hot by the time we got to the back nine. Fairways had been cut and the greens were as good as they have been for quite some time.
We had a Competition within a Competition today as our Monthly Medal Winners played off as well as being part of the overall Stroke Round.

It was expected to be a tight competition and it was except for the outstanding scores from Jereld Sawyer and Anders Lincoln.
Jereld from the feedback of his group members had an incredible round over powering the course with his ability to use mainly a 3 iron off of almost every par 4 or par 5 hole.
His 64 net is the lowest in memory and enabled him to easily trounce the field with the exception of Anders Lincoln. Anders in spite of being still under the weather from a virus recorded 67 net to finish second. Gordon Caygill with 72 points finished third.
Other Scores; Terry Aston, John Cooke & Rex King 73,Ian Barrett & Gary Parks 74,Tony Jones 75,Chuck Mc Cormick 77,William Chang & Ari Jylha & Peter Hellery 79, Joe M c Gowan 80,Kevin Dunne 81, David Exley N/R.
Closest to the Pin on the Par 3 3rd and 17th holes went to Ian Barrett and Rex King.

Next Round Monday 30th at Srithani 8 15am tee off.

^He's into it, that's for sure . A few of the Pattaya golf societies put similar write - ups and winners photos in the Pattaya Mail each week, I don't play in any societies or tornaments any more but always read their reports, it's a great way to get an idea of which courses are over ran by Koreans, which courses are in good condition, etc.

Must start taking a few pics of local courses and start a thread one day. Golfer or not, the scenery on golf courses far away from concrete jungles is a fantastic thing to see.

And more to that, Golf is a great way to meet other similar minded Expats outside of the bar scene.

For the retired guys it's a great way to enjoy their time.

    All good innit.

I don't play golf mind you but some of my mates back home are fully committed to it.

30th November 2015 Udon Golf Society Results
A great turn up of 18 this morning at Srithani for our regular Monday Society Round. 4 Nong Bua Lumphu golfers joined us as guests for the round and their participation was most welcome.
Stable ford format and some great scores recorded. None more so than Anders Lincoln who followed up his terrific Medal Round score last week with 41 points today to win the round.
Rex King also played great with 39 points to finish second while David Exley 38 points and Ian Barrett 36 points came in 3rd and 4th respectively.
Rex King won the only Closest to the Pin Prize on the Par 3, 3rd hole.

Other Scores; Paul Samme 35,Ari Jylha, Peter Hellery and Graham Firth 34,Tony Jones 31,Gary Parks, Chuck Mc Cormick 30,Terry Aston, Kevin Dunne 28, William Chang 23.
Thai Holiday next Monday 7th December so there will not be a Society Round on this day.
Society though will resume on Monday the 14th December.
