August 18/19 2015 IFGG Results
Although numbers were down our August IFGG 2 day IFGG proved that we do not always need a large field to enjoy close competition or social interaction.Due respect to those who could not attend of course.
Wednesday we teed off at 9 am at Singha in windy hot conditions playing a Stroke round. The course was in excellent condition and the greens running at 9.5 tested us all as it was a direct contrast to our slower inconsistent Udon courses.
Per Hansen and Rex King battled it out with only 2 net strokes separating them at the end. Per with 74,Rex 76 and Chuck in third spot with 82.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 holes went to Peter Hellery and Per.
Crazy Hat avoidance had been the major focus for the higher scores which narrowly was won by Peter.
Our usual post game social interaction continued with drinks and pool at the Blue Bar, then an enjoyable meal at Di Dine followed by a short stop at another bar, before calling it a day quite early compared to some months.
The Ubolrat Dam provides discount Green Fee rates on Wednesdays to Elderly Thai Golfers so we decided to give our usual Blue Bar breakfast a miss and instead tee off at 8am to avoid the expected crowd.
Hot humid conditions greeted us as we commenced our Stable ford round and the opening holes were anything but well played, suggesting maybe we should have not hit the sack the previous night as early. But then Night Owls Paul, Tony and Graham were missing this trip.
Overall scores at Ubolrat were below expectations due in no small way to the adjustment required playing a tighter course, plus the slower speed of the greens compared to Singha.
After a disastrous 3 hole start Terry Aston put a good front nine 18 points together enabling him to steal the win with a miserable 32 points. Peter Hellery with an 18 point back nine finished strong with 29 points to come second with Rex King 28 points third.
Rex and Terry won the 2 par 3 closest to the pin holes.
At the conclusion in working out the Overall 2 day winner with the assistance of Chuck Mc Cormick it worked out that we had a 3 way tie, the first time ever in the 4 years of the IFGG.
Per, Rex and Terry all had 62 overall points.
Chuck got to take home the Crazy Hat and the Spoon but credit to him for persevering as he has been out with back and neck issues.
A highlight of the 2 day Comp however was Chuck getting presented with his Award by Singha Pk for his recent Hole in One at the course. You could say he was quite chuffed as he should have been in receiving such a great prize.
Winner of the last 3 months of IFGG is Rex King.
Peter Hellery won the March/April /May 3 months.
