It gets that way on here too from time to time but I attribute that to the numbers of Commonwealth folks we have aboard who have a natural tendency to support 'Old Blighty' and take a dig at septics.

True, but it's an easy target with your present government.

That's a young Frank Sinatra. Once he became a criminal, doors opened and the Godfather took him under his wing. Watch the Godfather movies for his story - the character was Johnny Fontaine.

^Frank always denied that story and claimed it was actually Dean Martin who was mobbed up.

Yeah, I know. But if you look at how the rat pack headlined Vegas at the Mob casinos all those years they probably all were.

From what I read it was Frank with all the main mob connections.

I lived in Hollywood Hills for some years, and had some friends in the movie biz. They told me Francis Ford Coppola, the director of the Godfather movies, was personally threatened by Frank with Mob repercussions if he went ahead with telling that. The legend also goes that the Mafia told Frank to stuff it, and loved Coppola for glamourising the mob.

well, wasn't Bugsy Siegal the first mobster to be a partner in, i believe, the first casino - the flamingo - and he had been living in hollywood and was friends with Sinatra etc...

So is Bugsy Siegal the parallel to Freddy Corleone?

And didn't Siegal work for the jewish mobs? Or was he banished to the italians cos he was too flamboyant?

That's what I was lead to believe, too.

He had a lighter with something like 'love from Lucky Luciano' engraved on it, or something similar.

Yes, I believe that is true, but Coppola's Freddy was a total loser more so than Siegel.

Siegel was the subject of a movie himself called Bugsy you may recall with Warran Beatty playing him.

The Movie, I think, was "Sneakers" Robert Redford asks his long lost buddy, Ben Kingsley something like "So, you've been working for Organized Crime?"
Kingsley answers, "It's not all that Organized"
probably one of the most accurate Quotes in Hollywood's history.
You guys been watchin too many fuckin movies.

That's right!! Now I recall, I watched that movie when I was a young teen, and felt it to be a historical portrayal.

Then again, I thought star wars was true also.

You know, Bugsy was also a loser, as he lost all investors money on the casinos - was a bad businessman and eventually got whacked by the mob with a bullet through the eye.

    From what I've read :

Siegel started out with Meyer Lansky who engineered a partnership with the "Italian Americans"

You would not call him "Bugsy" to his face if you wanted to keep yours.

He was whacked for skimming off the casino. Business is business !

yeah, and Meyer Lansky was the real life Jewish mobster upon which the character of Hyman Roth in Godfather II was based. He was also flattered to be portrayed in the Godfather by famous acting coach Lee Strasberg, and met him afterwards to thank him for his true protrayal.
