    Sunday 4th January 2015

    Hi Guys,

I took a chance to take a lift from Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai to Bangkok with a Thai guy Sunday before last, to help him out with the petrol. We were following another family member in a truck. Not a good idea in a Honda City. Route 1 to Lampang, then 11 via Uttaridit and Phichit.

13.5 Hours, 3 near misses, got into East Bangkok at 11.00pm. I admit to sweating a little. Next time I will stick to my original ideas, and fly or take the overnight bus.

Sorry to say that I have a funeral tomorrow. A mate was wiped out on that day, on Karrinyup Road, Peart at 10.00pm by a 18y.o drunk driver on the wrong side of the road.

Who can tell when shit will happen?

Maybe helmets should be compulsory for all passengers in any vehicle driven by a Thai.
    Sorry for your loss.

    Thanks Chas,

I am not sure that a helmet would have saved Marty.

I have known a few good Thai drivers, believe it or not, but that is an exception to the rule.

It's strange that during the ride I did feel an air of forboding, but wasn't clear about what. My sense of self-preservation was to strong, maybe.
