What the hell am I doing.

Hi all, Just thought I would introduce myself.
I am soon to be moving to the land of smiles and empty pockets, with my beloved, or the 'voice' as I call it. As in it can kill a man at 10 paces with one lash of its tongue.

I am giving up my nice sleepy life in deepest Kent (thats in the U.K) for a life of drink and sleep interjected with the occasional outburst from my highly strung fountain of all knowledge.

I shall be making landfall in early march and stopping with the outlaws until we get our own little pad nr Bangkok.

I have been logging on to this site occasionally for a while now, and have been wetting myself with some of the stories and comments on here, its just fantastic.

Anyway enough for now and hopefully will speak to some of you soon

    All the best

Welcome mate, an enjoyable OP as far as the noob section goes!

As an aside, it seems my rep power is now immense - just greened him and he went from one green blob to a full 6 green blob set in one fell swoop!

    Thanks for the welcome fellas

I wouldn't know if me and Dave are cut from the same cloth, but if he is from Kent, as in Gravesend, then we our both on the same hymnsheet as I hail from Ashford.

Anyway I am really looking forward to spending many an evening on here in the near future whilst the 'voice' is picking its family to pieces or some such rubbish.

    G'day Nutsy.

The " voice " sounds like someone I know, Thai women don't just talk
to each other over the fence, they talk to each other from one end of the
    soi to the other.

    Oh and welcome.

Ello mate, good luck with the move but considering your landing in March you will be sweating your bolliks off.

Its forking hot mate and much hotter than the " voices " tongue I would surmise.

Besides that make sure you don't wear your thongs with your socks over here.

    That's foked up innit.

    Cheers Bra.

Welcome Nutsy, Ashford is a nice place until you go into the town center and see all the Chavs spunking their hard earned giro money in Greggs and KFC.

Welcome Nutsy. Enjoy the forum banter and with the move here in LOS, recommend you do things slowly. Get settled in, learn the lay of the land, make sure of the area you want to settle in, bring your hobbies and books, find a suitable and healthy daily routine, have some good mates and enjoy!

Good luck to you on the move.

Welcome to the only forum you'll ever need. I am sure you will do your bit and fill a few of those empty pockets, you only live once. Bring a pair of stout boots.

    Hi Nutsy,
    Welcome to TD.
You like to consider asking your wife to make a little extra money at the local panelbeaters....stripping paint from cars.

Thanks for the great welcome everyone, it is mucho appreciated. I will be doing as a lot of you have suggested and just taking things nice and easy with the odd vat of whiskey for company along with a few good books.

The 'voice' will be out stripping paint with its tongue and earning the dough to keep us going and as we have no litt'luns to worry about, fingers crossed everything will be ok.

Eventually I will be going for the 'ED' Visa so I can prolong my stay in LOS and learn the language properly, as opposed to having it shouted so fast and loud, that my ears end up bleeding and hopefully not in conjunction with the nearest heavy object.

The one good thing is that I do not have 'family' to worry about as they all disappeared in the middle of the night some years back, which reminds me, I must bring my copy of carrie..........

One must assume you are unable to qualify either for a spouse visa or retirement. The ED visa is fine but clearly dependent upon your course of study and even under the current regime where attendance can be negligible this might prove not to be so attractive a route.
The £ is now 45bt or thereabouts with every chance it will hit 40. This will make Bangkok rather more expensive than it already has become, particularly if you are supporting a Thai with the inevitable family fiscal drag.
To have any sort of life you will need at least approx £20,000 per annum at current rates.
It's a bore as well if you plant yourself out in some suburban desert and probably just as tedious within the inner city boundaries. If you do plump for suburbia or further out into the sticks then you will need a car for sure - budget for around £8,000 to get something halfway decent as an absolute minimum
If you can work legally then so much the better.
Careful what you wish for but I do acknowledge leaving Ashford must be a great impetus to any plan - Kent is really quite awful these days but around the cinque ports life can be attractive.

I appreciate and have taken on board your comments thegent, thanks.
As for living in the cinque ports, well most of them are ok if you are an oap, and I can see why it would appeal to that age bracket, As for Dover, Deal and Folkestone, I would rather hack my leg off with a rusty knife to be honest. Folkestone and Dover may as well display signs on there peripheries stating that they are closed until further notice, as any money in the areas has long since vanished into the abyss leaving a trail of empty shops and boarded up houses behind it. And Deal is just run amok with pikeys giving bj's and shagging in doorways all evening every evening or pissing in your doorway whilst trying to steal you car. Really the East Kent coast is just an extension of Thanet these days, sadly.
