The Meth One's Fuck The Best !!
Place was mobbed, saw a new Ford Wildtrack. The cabin was very impressive but the body work had too many little inserts on it. Bit of a birthday cake. They had a double cab but couldn't get close because of the crowd. Looked ok. The Ford saleman knew very little about the truck except the price.
The Mazda BT-50 looked quite good, quite a bit plainer inside than the Ford, though they had the cabin locked, probably because it wasn't finished off properly. The body has a nice streamline appearance. Couldn't get a price only a release date.
^ sounds like it'd be worth looking at both, certainly - thanks for that.
Went to the Expo today and got to "test drive" the Ranger.
They asked which one I want, 3.2 or 2.2. Was tempted by the bigger one, but went for the 2.2 to compare to my Calibre.
Now the "test track" is a whooping 500m loop over the parking lot, which you are allowed to drive once. So, a great opportunity to check the lauded new suspension, nimbleness and stable high speed cornering - it isn't.
But at least you get to move that beast, hear (or not) the engine and get a glimpse of how it might feel on the road.
The car is big. Inside and out it looks a size above the competition.
The interior is the nicest as well. Isuzu / Holden looked good on pictures from Oz, but what you get here in Los looks and feels like a delivery van from 15 years ago. The Ranger gives you at least the feeling of sitting in a contemporary delivery van.
The truck I drove came as "Wildtrack", giving extra leather (The orange strip and stitching looks really cool - not tacky as the red/black combo in the top spec Cruze.), steering wheel control for the radio and trip computer, and a lot of add ons on the outside as well as a black grill.
The engine is (for a diesel in a pick up) very quiet.
The overall noise suppression seems very good, which makes you notice the indicator ticking even more so. Once I heard it, it summed up the whole experience: very "limousine like".
The space on the backseats is enormous in comparison, witch enough leg room and huge headroom.
I was very impressed. That thing makes my 1 year old Navara (post facelift!) look like 2 generations older. (The intermittent Generation being the new Isuzu/ Chevrolet combo.)
The 2.2l is giving 350Nm of torque, which is a tiny bit more than the 2.5 in my Navara. But in the Ford it comes in at 1500RPM, not 2000 - which makes quite a difference.
Deliveries are supposed to start in 2 Month, but the sales staff told me May might be more realistic, especially for the 4 door Wiildtrack.
My only gripe was, that the 2WD is supposedly coming without a diff lock, even though it was promised for at least the Wildtrack model.
15 minutes later I was standing at the Isuzu stand, having a good look at their new product, when two executives came up to me and asked me how i Liked it.
I told them it's a nice design and a big step ahead. Just a shame that the Ranger is so much better.
That didn't go down too well - I think...
^^ cool. I like Mazda over Ford for some irrational reason. Will likely get a better trade in on the BT-50 too.
^ just direct from the website.
^^^ nice report, thanks. It does seem like it's a good truck; not sure how well it will sell here though... Thais being Thais...
Think this will be me. Still, don't see the advantage of 6 spd. Anyone can comment on this?Originally Posted by Carrabow
What sort of trade in should I be looking to get on a 2 year old BT-50 (740K brand new)?
Only 10K more for 4WD without the Wildtrak cosmetics. Sweet. The 2WD Wildtrak seems overpriced, and what is so wild about a 2WD pickup anyway?Originally Posted by Carrabow
It has all the fancy gubbins inside. I'd rather have that than 4WD as I'd never use it, but you needs may well be different from mine.Originally Posted by 9999
You never use a 4 wheel drive vehicle and yet you feel that you are able to offer advice on the relative merits of these cars ? I drive a 4x4 every day and know what I'm talking about. You seem content with decorations inside a vehicle and have little regard to its absolute values as a means of transport.
Are you one of those clowns who covers his windscreen with signs and furry dice ? Do you have a "go faster strip" down the side of your car ?
Sorry, I didn't know all pick-ups were 4WD.Originally Posted by can123

No you don't, you are completely clueless.Originally Posted by can123

So silly buggers like you keep saying. Unfortunately, there is not a single piece of evidence to support what you say. People keep saying how bloody marvellous the New Ranger is going to be but have failed to indicate any of its perceived benefits and explain why it is better than the Japanese vehicles.
Has it ever dawned on people that the vast majority of pickups in Thailand are Japanese models made in Thailand ? Very few Rangers to be seen anywhere. Is it just possible that Thais drive the Japanese cars because they are superior to American ones ?
I may have half a brain but it works better than yours.
Apart from all the press reviews and user reviews in Aus.Originally Posted by can123

How much bigger than a Vigo is it ?
I'm sorry, mate, but, as it happens, I don't read many Australian papers or magazines. In fact, having lived in Pattaya, I make every effort to avoid Australians and their opinions.
A bit freaky but today I saw both the Ford pickups in my town within the space of five minutes. One looks like a little sheep pen on wheels and is used on a farm. All the other pickups are Japanese models.
I am still surprised that there can be so much excitement about a vehicle which is not yet available.
I've driven pickups in Thailand but when I go to live there I will be buying a 4x4 SUV. My Nissan has been superb in snow in the UK. I need an air-conditioned vehicle to carry my dogs and feel that a SUV is the best for my needs. I like the look of the Fortuner and the MU 7.

I have only seen pictures of them. The only vehicle of any value in Thailand seems to be one which is not available.
What the hell do you mean by "out of date" ? You and your nutty friend Betty seem to be like little kids, only impressed by "bells and whistles". I hope you buy a Ranger and that they give you a big red balloon as a welcoming gift. Or, perhaps, a goldfish.
