    Vehicles of Thailand - photos

Inspired by this pic posted by Superman in the post-a-photo-week-anything-anywhere thread, went through my pics and found some of the vehicles you may encounter on a Thai road:

No apologies for photo quality, often taken from a moving motorbike

The Austin 1100 'racing replica' is owned by one of the local firemen, still has the original engine and is 'good for 100' he says

and a few from across the border, cellphone pics from Phnom Penh

I like the practicalities of the Phnom Penh tuktuks; late last year we met a German engineer who lived in Roi Et, he had the plans for the motorbike coupling and tuktuk, with the intention of building one for his own transport. Don't know if he went ahead with it.

Special mention goes to this local vehicle

it overtook me at full speed and full volume one day when I was out on the bike, took a while to get the heartbeat back to normal.

My niece's husband is a vehicle certification man engineer/mechanic, for engine modifications etc, issuing roadworthiness certificates, I don't think he really believes some of the pics I've sent.
The broom etc salesmen are my favourites, they have a very limited view of the world among all that clutter.
We were out this afternoon and heavy downpour bought out some sights on motorbikes, people riding while holding umbrellas, one school student with what looked like a laptop bag on his head. No helmets of course.

Changing the oil from the engine between jobs, and yes he just walks round under it.

A Morris Oxford surely. The Indian Ambassador is based on a slightly later model with vestigial fins.

    Great thread... Thanks.

i love the recycled pickups... the old chassis totally dismantled with refitted running gear, wooden bodywork and a Kubota put-put motor sticking out. No tax, no insurance but great use of viable parts.

Not as dangerous as it looks. I saw a motorbike like this in Cambodia.
One of the cylinders had fallen off the back and started leaking with a hiss and a cloud of vapour.
An excited crowd gathered but there was no fire or explosion. I guess it also requires a spark.
