    Car Tax.

I wonder if anyone can help me here?
I am fixing up an old car that has been off the road for a number of years, the road tax has not been paid for about 5 years as it has stood idle in a field for this time.

Does anyone know if, when I take it to be taxed, will I have to pay the 5 years back taxes for the years it has been on blocks or, can I simply start afresh this year?

    Thanks!

All back tax has to be paid regardless and a small fine for each year.

^DD is correct. I had that experience with my Triumph bike, which had been sitting idle for a number of years when I bought it and started refurbishing it. Wasn't really all that expensive.

Yup, seems that that is the way it is.

    Pretty harsh though.

How much did you pay DK ?

They won't do the same with insurance too will they?

There must be away around this somehow, like re registering the vehicle or something...bribes, sex, a bottle of whisky?

I heard that you might have to pay a 200 Baht or so fine if caught without tax? is that true or not, and do they confiscate the car? However, I presume you cannot get insurance if you don't have the tax?

Thai registration, held (blue book) by Nim See Seng credit - which probably hasn't been paid for years either. It obviously needs to got to the Tor Oh Nor for its MOT, but without the book and without paying the arrears to Nim See seng I do not see a clear way forward, it may prove cheaper to sell the car and forget the whole thing, the car is pretty rubbish anyway.

Is there anyway I can get insurance for it and get it burned/stolen somewhere?

I was thinking of scanning my new tax disc, the one for my car, then photoshopping it and simply changing the registration - do you think the BIB will catch on? They usually just look at your wind shield as you slowly drive by?

It is only if they actually pull you that you have any chance of them getting on a computer, most of the time they just do a visual.

    Just pay the fokin fine.

You don't want to get done for forgery.

If it is only 200 Baht, no problem, but what is the deal with no insurance, as I presume, without tax is without insurance?

JJ: Honestly don't remember. The book was about 5 years out of date. It seems it was only a few thousand Baht, but it's been some time ago. Sorry I can't do better than that.

Doesn't a vehicle officially become unregistered - 'green book' is invalid from then on - after 3 consecutive years of not being taxed?

Well, things are not as bad as first perceived, the tax situation is easily sorted, only one years back taxes to pay, appears the BIL has kept things up to date as best he could.

However, tomorrow could involve an appointment with a Sthil Saw, they took the car to the Tor Or Ror for inspection and were basically told to fuck off, her brother has "GLUED " a roof on the back of the pick up so they won't even touch it..it looks like it is stuck on with silicone or something, anyway, that has to come off tomorrow -totally different taxation class if it has the back covered or has seats apparently!
