Anyone own one? What are your thoughts on this bike? I am thinking of buying one and would like your opinions. Here is a little taste of the XR1200 with 'Dr Jekill & Mr Hyde exhaust;

It's supposed to be an excellent bike. It was runner up to the Triumph Speed Triple as bike of the year this year.

The biggest problem with the XR is that most Hardley owners prefer to ride crap and most other bikey types believe that Hardley will never be able to make an excellent bike.
It looks to me to be a Harley pretending to be something it isn't.
The Speed triple is awesome. No question about it.
i,m sniffin around a 1200 sporty at the moment, they get along quite nicely actually much more fun than poofter yellow hondas and the like but i suppose those sort of motorcycles are meant to be there, other wise there would too many dickheads on real machines and ruining or good name , the trumpies are ok i suppose, lots of me mates wives ride em
A real Harley man would buy a real Harley, not a rice burner look a like.
Really do not feel like arguing with shit heads that have no fucking idea what they are talking about. But a 74" twin has some torque and only Ned seems to know what he is talking about anyway.
So I will just fuck off outta here.

The Buffalo Soldiers M/C is the only one I know of that you gots to be a coon to join, most M/C clubs will not let em join, even if they wanted to..
Make your own decision and don't listen to the 'experts'
I had Sporties from 91 thru 98 - first a 1991 then a 1993 - despite friends warnings, which I wisely ignored, went ahead and bought one then another. In that eight years I had two breakdowns, one a crimped battery cable (my fault) two - a broken clutch cable. I had them serviced as per schedule and never had any bother, the 93 had a belt drive (91 chain) and again, no problems.
I sold the 93 in 1998 for a Triumph 900 Triple, once again i had a faultless run, and really regretted selling this bike but at the time was doing a high-traffic commute and it just wasn't practical for that, got a 2005 Speed Four which i left in storage when i first moved here, but have since sold to a friend back in NZ. Both Triumphs were 100% reliable. I am a totally incompetent mechanic so always have all services/maintenance done by the dealer, on-time as per service book.
If you like the look, the sound and the feel of the HD, go for it. Mine held their value well for resale. The Triumphs are quite a different bike and should not be compared with HD, either you want a sports bike or not. There will always be something faster, lighter, and an expert to tell you what not/to buy, but it's you that has to live with it.
Happy, safe riding.
Easy mistake - but the BOTY is the Street Triple which is a 675cc; the Speed Triple people have referred to began life as a 900 (actually 885cc) in early 1990s, then was called a 955 and is currently a Speed Triple 1050. Same engine used in numerous Triumph models.
Both the 675 and 900/955 versions have had the name Daytona, just to confuse things. As has the 600cc four cylinder.
Significant differences.

It clear that Triumph is a very good bike.
The fact that I own one is a moot point.
Except for the XR which is the whole point of this thread.Originally Posted by genghis61

Gets a good review even against a 1100 Ducati
Yes I really like this bike I have to say it is growing on me by the day and finding this web forum;

I also have been watching youtube videos of this bike all day. I think I am going to have to pull the trigger on this one soon.
Nice to see Rigger and Nedley on the thread as it is nice to hear comments from people with actual hands on M/C experience.
Well I know a lot do have M/C hands on exp, but I mean over 125cc step thru stuff.
Awesome video here....
BTW BG rides his wifes honda wave...
I started on a 1938 Scout in about 1947 and had a couple new Hogs and a couple of Triumphs and beezers and some other small cube limeys and my last new was a 1995 FXWG and my last Hog in the states was a late 83 FLH with the cased chain and a new Evo that I bought out of Milwaukee and built up, Then I gave up and started rebuild older sleds and street rods and now I have a Honda Air Blade that I never ride.and would not waste the money for a HOG here as this is a shithole country to ride in as far as I am concerned because you dare not ever look away from traffic or they got ya baby, so If riding was that important to me I would move back home as 1 head on with a sled and living thru it was just plenty for me.Originally Posted by bsnub
