    Yep.
The same guy who owns the pickup above also built a 1JZ-GTE Opel Omega which was dyno'd at 397 bhp

Never mind FTA and calculated duty, Thai customs is corrupt like the rest of the Thai civil servants. They will charge you whatever they feel like. If they like your wheels they will make it so high you will have no choice but to abandon it. You will see it being driven in Bangkok a few weeks later.

If you used a decent Thai import company I would think they will give you a qoute for tax before you even ship ?. I know thats how it worked when I have shipped a motorcycle engine and frame into Thailand. But I guess if they wanted to they could change their mind once you get it into Thailand

For the stock 4wd 4-door Vigo pick-up, which are a complete waste of time to modify if you are looking for a quick road-going pick-up, which we did discuss before.

Won't be in effect ever if the Thai motor industry lobby gets its way so don't hold your breath.

They will never sell Australian made vehicles here in numbers anyway so I expect a clause written in preventing their tax-free import.

Modern turbo-diesels do the same job for less dosh.

Pick-ups are so somchai though, I'll never own another one with any luck.

Serious pwer rigger. They can be pushed hard. If you don't fancy a pickup put it into whatever you want, car, truck, bongo van, tuk-tuk

    Wrong.

You find a modern diesel for under 150k putting out that sort of power.

Loads of them available at wreckers and salvage yards throughout the country mate.

The 3.2 mitsu from the Triton is a good lump and can easily put out 300BHP with a uprated turbo. Don't reckon you'll pay more than 30,000thb for one.

No need for an engine swap on a newer pick-up obviously, which is what I was getting at, however if you are buying a banger then the JZ would be a good choice.

I have seen RB20's and RB26's (Skyline engines) here also.

Toyota to Reveal 2010 Tundra Pickup And New 4.6-liter V8 Engine at 2009 Chicago Auto Show

I've driven the Toyota Tundra in America, my brother has one. It's a dam impressive piece of machinery. Smooth as a Lexis, fast and practical, but I've never seen one in Thailand. I think they're made in the US by Toyota for the US market only.

saw one this morning at Makro, Lao plates

A friend from Lao brings his across on occasion, must admit to being a little envious at being able to buy a decent sized motor at a non extortionate price.

    V8 Conversion

Hi. I am at presant converting my Landrover Discovery from 2000cc Petrol to 1UZ 4000cc V8 Lexus/Toyota. I have also fitted a Lexus 5 speed Auto box. I had to replace the diff with a Toyota Landcruiser one as the Landrover diff is off centre. The total cost should be around 85/100.000 Baht. It will be complete by mid August. The origonal motor was completly underpowered. In Australia I converted 2 of my Volvo,s with 350 Chev motors. I live in Chiangrai and the conversion is being done in Chiangmai by an expert named Jimmy who worked in the USA many years doing the same. He also restores old/classic cars.
    Will keep you informed.

Bought a colorado pick up today, looked at a Z71 but was a bit to high for what I wanted and was 690,000 so I ordered a black standard colorado with tinted windows and every option avaliable with the Z71 stickers put on it.
paid 530,000 on road and saved 158,000 its only the 2.5 as they dont have a 3.0 ltr any more, first stop will be the mag shop for a set of blacked out mags and order a body kit and leather seats, Then I will start to plan what motor I will stick in it, I still really want a V8 but I guess will have to wait and see.
Pick it up in 3 days time

Got some rims and tires sorted the guy at the mag shop will buy my original 15 rims and tires, and I will buy 17" with low profile for about 32 to 35K depending on the tire I chose.
Stopped in at the body shop and asked for a body kit, they have never done a colorado but he will come up with something by next week for me, front back sides and bonnet scoop, Now looking for a exhuast shop as I want some big pipes hanging out the side
