From what I have read a stock Thunderbird runs a whole .2 seconds quicker down a 1/4 :) So in really not much in it.

^ the guy was probably right though (from a British perspective): HDs probably don't match up to the opposition with regard to, well, stuff that these bikes are: comfort, speed, braking, handling, etc, but 'style' is harder to quantify, and as a big fat roadster, HD are the original.

I like the Triumphs, but in their own genre, such as a speed triple. :)

Only the 1999 and 2000 models weren't restricted to 186mph (I had a 2000 I bought new)- they geared-out at 194mph, actually- you had to go into the engine (you need close to 200hp) and go up a tooth in front or down a couple teeth in back to hit 200mph.:)

yeah mate, I know....mines a 2003 KZ model....the all black one. Its no longer restricted. And with the analogue speedo that far round the guage you really dont have time to look to see if its sayin 193 or 194.....all I remember is there was bugger all else keepin up.... :)

Yep, that's another one- the gauges went up to 220mph until 2000- they swapped 'em out for the 185mph models after that.

The 220mph gauges were notoriously inaccurate- they were easy to run over the 200mph mark (I ordered a 'Yellow Box' which corrected it to dead-on- it was off at least 10% from the factory- like most manufacturers Suzuki likes their speedos to be on the 'happy' side).

I'm gonna buy a 2nd gen model (or hopefully a 3rd gen- the new ZX14 looks pretty fast and the Busa will need some work to keep up) in a couple of years (probably ~700K or more new in LOS by the time I'll buy one, but worth it).

Yup.....and thats where it all gets messy.... the Busa's faaaaar too easy to ride faaaaar too quickly. In the UK (etc) you can at least predict with a certain degree of accuracy what other road users are likely to do; here however, if you can figure out what any of these lunatics (that are usually off their heads on something or other) or the buffalo are going to do, chances are yer balls are made of crystal instead of the standard fitment meat.... so i'm gonna stick a gixer 11 mill into a hardtail instead and see if that slows the plot down a bit :mid:

Dunno about this Harley Ferguson shit tho......:smileylaughing:

Absolutely- I had mine when I lived in Southern California, and even at 90mph on the highway I'd sometimes rest my left elbow on the tank to relieve back strain on long trips, and it was no big deal- it didn't start to feel 'stupid fast' until past 130mph or so- the Busa really re-wrote the book on speed (and it handled pretty well for a 550lb. bike, and that was before you started swapping and stripping parts to lighten it).

Thats the one.....I didnt even "assume the position" til after 130/140. I had the forks reworked with Ohlins internals and an Ohlins on the back and it completely transformed the bike. No-one that rode with me referred to it as a 'sports tourer' any more....!! It could mix it with anything else out there on anything but the tightest of Scottish Highland roads (there the 250 RGV's and baby blades were king...!!) I'm still a Gixer junkie at heart though...... :)

Looks like they cut the front quarter panel of a 50's yank tank and stuck it onto the handlebars......how many beers can you fit in there is the main question otherwise it's just useless.

Some of us have been riding Thailand on litre sports bikes riding them hard with out any problem, its only a busa are you gay or something (english)

I know beers are important they can go in the back panners, how many can you carry on you bike Bung :)

I actually have the factory panniers for the Thruxton and would easily fit a bottle of JD or a six pack of beer (which would be more than enough to see me asleep in a ditch somewhere), toothbrush and change of undies as I would probably crap myself on the ride at some point.

Must admit, I'm not to hot on the front end either.

Anyone got first hand experience with V-Rods?
