Peter, does the R1 still have the funky red and yellow paint job?

CBR400 is quick and scary enough for me on Thailand's roads[/quote]
you own one then ?
^ Bingo mate..
I think it does, he might be planning to sell it to CMn, as you know from his avatar, he's a bit weird...Originally Posted by Spin
Plenty of places, just find a road with no side roads, Khon kaen ring road is a good place to wind your bike off the clock. I geared mine down -1 on the front and +1 on the rear and now the clock only goes to 285 klm/h before hitting the rev limiter.Originally Posted by paulsmithson

Your right Paul, less opportunities to wind a bike out now, although still some good high speed roads up here.
On the # 12 highway khon Kean to Lomsak comes to mind. The real thrill of a sports bike tho is the cornering, so you don't necessarily need out right speed to get a woody on.
A good run is around the Mae khong from Nong kai to Chiang khan, not the best roads in Thailand but good scenery and a excellent mix of slowish corners with fast ones, not too much traffic.
Around near where some of our oil feild scum live i.e. the Ubon rattana dam, good roads and lots of bendy stuff without traffic. But the old days when you could clock KK to Phi Mai on #2 highway in under an hour are gone unless you really do have a death wish.
Hey I live near there I wouldnt mind meeting themOriginally Posted by peterpan
My 1k Fazer kicks in about 4.5 but its not until 9 that the noise and the G's bring on the rush.Originally Posted by Rigger
285Kph??? my neck would snap at that speed!!! - a fly hitting the visor - I'd imagine that would take on the impact force of hitting brick wall ....ouch!!!
I'm getting old... I'll stick to cruising at 180 and trying to find the perfect winding road.
That what the clock says but real speed would be in the 265 range I would think.Originally Posted by Khun Custard

^^
Yes... they are a sweet handling, big bike over a bottom end growler.
I have an Akapovic system on it now - seems to have little more bottom end than when it was stock.
KC, the Fazer is a great bike for an all round city / touring bike, 1 L so fast enough and surprisingly comfortable at 150 to 200 Kph. The suspenders let it down a bit but at the market its aimed at I think yamaha have done a great job.
I just got my 11XXGS back.
It does feel great after riding the wee scooter.
5000 rpm gives me 140 kph. The engine is really responsive between 3-5000.
Maybe I'll do another Ironbutt run up to Doi MaeSalong.
Good to hear your back on yr bike Mr Earl. I'm too much of a poove to do those Iron butt rides, 700 km max and I'm off the bike and into a few beers. A few of the lads from BKK are planning on doing a ride around the North and Isaarn 24/27th April.

How about it ?
yes those Ironbutt rides are grueling.
Yesterday I rode Hua Hin-Phuket, about 9 hours including a few stops. My butt was a bit sore. Wrists also were showing signs of wear.
I'm game for some riding in April I reckon. Be a good time of year to be in the mountains.
Got the GSXR back on the road today, and it runs fantastic, I'm like a kid in a candy-store.. Koen-kaen here we come...

The previous problem with the engine not running smooth with 4000rpm is gone, it just drive great and has plenty of power to drag my fat arse around..
that is until you land!!!
Wrote my fazer off in the UK. Lay in a field for one and a half hours with some god awful injuries and my right leg trapped in the back wheel.
Diesel spill the local cops later told me.
But what a bike for an old guy with back problems!!
I remember sitting up straight and leaning it into a few tight bends around devils bridge in yorkshire whilst slipping it inside of my mates Ducati with his knee scraping the deck!
Had big bikes all my life! Even raced in the UK at one time.
It is real heart ache to live here now and not even have a moped!!
Got to make things right soon!
