Thread: How many KM do you drive in Thailand every year?

I think if you spend a lot of time shouting at other drivers or complaining about their "driving" - it fairly cetain the problem lies with the complainer

SK that is because you are driving on the correct side of the road.

I have never liked Automatics but in Thailand i find they come into their own, the Thai vehicles rack up c 25k kms a year

I think if you hve to worry about what side of the road a country drives on, you probably shouldn't be driving there...or anywhere else.a

I am only over in Thailand 2-3 months a year, haven't settled there yet. We probably average 5-6K/year mainly driving to Sakon Nakhon, Udon Thai and Nakon Phanom. Nowadays we prefer the back roads rather than the new dual carriageways, more enjoyable and less hassle. There are also a few markets to browse through, see what's on offer. Life is nice, slow, and relaxed when we are in Thailand.

Glad I taught the wife to drive, she can take over when it's quiet and let me look around.

I was really surprised at how easy switching back and forth was when I first came here. The only thing that still gets me occasionally is turning from a parking lot onto a road with little traffic.

I am certain I will never get used to the turn signal, the only difference now, is that I sometimes get the wipers and the turn signal mixed up regardless of where I am.

Have had the Mitsu pickup 8 years and haven't hit 20K yet, so just over 2000 klms a year.

I keep a spreadsheet of our car expenses, and looking things up to answer this I see it is exactly 2 years since I first filled up our second hand Hilux, I see that as at last fill up a few days ago I have driven the huge distance of 8233kms ! Most of that would be out to the farm and a few trips into Ubon per year. 722 litre of diesel at a cost of 23780 baht.
If it was not for needing to take stuff out to the farm we could probably not have bothered buying the pickup. In the 4 years or so since we moved here from BKK the wife and I have also put on about 4000km on the scooter

For my job I relied on my car and in my time off, I'd do road trips - either solo or with guests. It took me to almost every part of Thailand and most of Laos.
