On mention of the word Thruxton, my mind went back to the Thruxton Velocette, that I owned, around 67/68. A 500cc single, that despite the age of the original engine design, could set the nerves tingling, the one that I had was fitted with the standard 2" inlet valve, and if I recall correctly, the Amal GP carburettor, was 1 3/4". I had had the cylinder head gas flowed, and installed some 'polydine' road/racing cams from Velocette expert Geoff Dodkins. I well remember taking this machine over to the Isle of Man, and enjoying being able to blast it down Snaefell, at what was regarded then as, very high speed. Keeping within the bounds of my known motorcycling ability,I only tried to emulate the deeds of the greats, such as Bob Mac, Mike Hailwood and others, in my mind, not on the roads!

In the back of my mind, I seem to have a recollection of of the American 'Indian' motorcycle company, purchasing the Velocette name and producing in Italy an Indian Velocette. I will have to do a little research on this, unless someone pips me to the post.

PP. Sounds like you would have preferred the old, LE Velocette, 200cc horizontally opposed, water cooled, side valve, and shaft drive, as often used by the British police. Such a smooth, silent machine, a great shame that it never underwent much development, other than as the 'Valiant', if I remember correctly.

200 cc nah, that don't do it for me, stick with Yam R1 for a while longer although don't often get to ride it. The guys up here do ride outs but its very cruisey so have to wait for my mates to come up from BKK.
I "should" have a 900 cc Triple speed going soon, thanks be to the very kind help of Corvette lover who has been searching the world for parts for it for me.
Bit more fitting for my age I think.

Just remembered another model based on the LE, it was a twin headlamped model, called the Vogue.
