Stick with a 2007 CRV or 2015 Toyota Pre Runner

    Talking second hand here:

Forget buying new, but curious as to what you would go for. I've never owned the 2wd Pickup here other than the Triton 10 years ago.

My CRV- 2007 has 75,000 miles Aprrox 550k I have been offered

The Toyota 2015 has just over 15,000k (Just over 600K)

The Toyota is the previous shape.

Need something for lugging stuff around, CRV is great but developing a few electrical issues. New battery dead after 2 weeks (2nd in a year) Honda can't find a fault with the car. Always been happy with Honda service who have never charged for inspection on the CRV. Not sure if it is because we bought an Accord from them or they just don't charge if they can't find a fault.

Toyota, I have no experience personally but obviously they seem to be the choice. Although I have always been a Mitsubishi fan.

Friend, dealer has offered my wife a decent deal, plus 1 year or 20,000km warranty.

Is the 2.5 2wd any good?

Yet someone would pay half a million baht for it? Weird. I sounds like it is a couple of years from the scrap yard.

Whilst newer and undoubtedly more reliable, I'd guess that the Prerunner may feel a tad agricultural after the CRV. Neither are known for great driving dynamics, but the CRV is definitely closer to the car end of the spectrum.

Assuming you're OK with the above I'd go for the Prerunner simply because it will be likely to give you five to ten years of completely worry-free motoring. Keeping an older car alive tends to start costing money and it sounds like the CRV is getting to that stage.

The CRV has very low mileage. Sort out the electrical problem and you have good, practical and cheap transportation that will last for years.

I've got a 2000 CRV, as well as a 2005 CRV. My two most reliable and hassle-free vehicles. They are far better made than newer model CRV's. I'm keeping them until one of us croaks. Resale on the older CRV's is still excellent; they hold value well because they are low maintenance and on the road look little different than a CRV ten years newer.

Sorry, 75,000km i meant. No I am not in the trade but my wife was partly responsible for setting up one2car, or the buy out by I arabica so she has contacts within the trade.

Going to check the toyota tomoz. I do like my crv, cheap with the e85 kit. Just concerned of electrical issues as last time steering failed!

    Agree.

Prefer to drive the cry than my wife's accord. But after the power steering kind of went, pulling from left to right and fortunate at the time it pulled me into fashion island's loading bay, I sensed thing were perhaps going to get worse. Turned out to be an earth breakage and cost 1500bht to repair. I am just starting to get that uneasy feeling that hard to find electrical issues are going to come about.

I replaced complete suspension last year and tires because it was sat unused. Think it might be a sign of things to come. I regret selling the Pajero, so perhaps the pre runner will come in handy.

I actually meant Humbert for saying that your quoted mileage of 75,000 miles was "very low"

    Anyway, as you were

I'm wired to read KMs so I read it that way. We are in Thailand, who thinks in miles anyway?
Things are going to go wrong with an older car. You have to deal with the maintenance issues. Still a lot cheaper than buying a new car.

    Feckin' Thais, eh!

Mid-week we arranged to view the Toyota on Saturday. Friday, had a minor off road accident on my motorbike while doing a wheelie over a small Kong bridge. As I got to opposite side my foot peg snapped and I nearly went flying as I was standing at the pegs at the time

Phone Kawa "Do you have the parts?" Yes, we do. Great I will be there tomorrow.

On the way we phone my wife's dealer friend to inform her we are an hour away. Get to Kawasaki, no parts in stock, 7 days! Feck, was supposed to be going on an off road trip today with a chap who contacted me via this forum, I think.

On our way to see Toyota we phoned to say we are 20 mins away after been sat in an hours + traffic to Kawa. Get there, pass the pleasantries only for the silly cow to inform us the car was sold yesterday! Fair enough, the car was sold so she took the opportunity to get us in the door and try coax us into buying another truck, but it really does infuriate me with the lack of common decency in most here.

Feckit, we are keeping the CRV.

You should be able to sort out the electrical issue with a decent diagnostic mechanic.

Most dealership mechanics are simply parts re-placers not diagnosticians.

It wouldn't be too hard to diagnose the problem yourself with a voltmeter.

Guy offered me $5,000 USD yesterday for my 2000 CRV. Told him no thanks.

Couldn't replace it for anything as good for 5K.

Plus, it had some problems years ago (ball joints, tie bars, shitty plastic radiator) which have all been sorted long ago - don't want to start over with new problems from some other guy's used car.

Nah, didn't meet her in a bar, plus she earns 5x more than I do. She bought both cars and wanted to buy a new HRV for me but I said no. Pickup fine, if the deal was on as I can chuck the bikes in the back.

I am blessed from that side. When we first met 10 years ago I was the bread winner. The only thing I own legally is my motorbike, the rest is for our daughter. I am happy with that!

Same vehicle I have as well, and love it. I had a 2009 Smartcab Prerunner 3.0 diesel that I traded in on the TRD, and it burned more fuel than the 2.5L Turbo Diesel I have now. You can not to wrong with a Toyota pickup in Thailand. They are one of the best deals going IMO.
