    Buying a bike at 62

Hi to all knowledgeable bikers, and hello to all others like me.
Buying a bike at 62, the last bike I road was a Triumph Tiger Cub 45 years ago, I live in the sticks Chiang Rai region so the roads are fairly quiet, I have my car to get about in and the Mrs has a Honda PCX.
Is it an age thing? But I fancy buying a bike also being an old geezer I like the retro look of some bikes, I stopped at a sales place on the forecourt was 4 Honda Phantoms 200cc out comes a sleepy sales guy with no shirt on, I ask how much are you asking for the Phantoms? 60,000THB was the answer.
There was 4 two fire editions one black and one silver varying conditions KL readings from 7k to 70k,
How old are they please? I think over ten years was the answer! Now is it me or is something wrong here! If I owned the garage when I took in a PX or bought a bike I would make out a ticket with basic info to give to potential customers, first registration date, KL service history number of owners and above all an exact price, needless to say I said Thanks and walked away in bemusement.
The Phantom was produced in Thailand from 2001 to 2010 so my best bet is for a 5-year-old model,
As I said I haven’t ridden for some 45 years so I don’t want to go much bigger than the Phantom and I do like the Retro look, if anyone could recommend something similar I would be grateful.

Have you looked at the keyway retro model. You can get new for around that price. They are not bad for the money. Take a look at the 200cc superlight cruiser.

I don't think that I'd go the Keyway route.
I know a couple of guys that have purchased them, many problems.

    I've got one of these.

Welcome to Thai customer service, I brief look at bike fatalities may switch you to a nice pmped up 4x4.

However good a safe driver you are there's a world of Thoeng farmers with no insurance sipping a gallon of lhao khao in happy hour (all day on pay days, so anytime from leaving a pitti at midnight to super next day)

Guess what happened when a drunk old man with no isurance pulled out and crashed into a Uk friend ,yes the foreigner was around a million out of pocket, I can introduce you.

Plus elephants in N C Rai ,rolled over buses drunken professional truckers, falling trees and BB to fleece the unwary falang.
I do bike locally but eep of the C Rai and Phu Chi Fa death lanes,Of course once tooled up come and visit we'll give you aftershock de-tox or a Chang enema

Mt tip get a drone to see the country a chick to collect your beverages and invest in a pool or poolroom better than the slum snooker hall in Thoeng

I'm 53 and I'm looking at the Honda CTX700 with the auto transmission.

It's got a low seat height, auto tranny which just generally, I think, makes things easier.

Hi David. I could just sit on the porch all day drinking Leo, I am sure that would be safer! However one cant live forever contemplating the bucket list! "No! try not! do or do not there is no try"! Said master Yoda!!!

keyway, had a few praise em' so it just depends. Personally, I wouldn't buy one but the OP asked for retro, not expensive and with no confidence with second hand dealer he met. There is of course the classic looking cafe racer from honda, but the riding position isn't great.

With any bike you've just got to ride it. Keeway might not be the best or most reliable if comparing to honda, but they come with warranty and ride pretty well. Mate just bought one and loves it.

That being said, 60k doesn't leave many options. At that price I'd go scooter.

A good friend of mine aged 67 recently bought a 300 Ninja, he and his wife (same age) love it.

It's given them a whole new view of life.

    They love it.

    Good on 'em.

On the face of it, a 62 year old buying a motorcycle represents the same risk as a Thai teenager buying a gun.
As CMN says, go for it.

Age 62? Best bike at your age would be a 'Mountain Bike'. It was for me.

Or a good old fashioned 'Bike Mounting".

As long as you don't break your back on the mounting.
