185/55 on rear, 195/50 on front?

Well, I got new tyres for the car, 1 yr old Bridgestone for 3,500b. Bargain.

Except the fookers don't fit. With people in the car the front ones just rub the fender when turning, making a not too pleasant sound or feeling while doing so.

Sanded down the fender a bit, reattached it after poking around a bit, still just rubbing.

The car's a city hatchback with 15in alloy rims. 195/50 are not that easy to find unless at a dealer like cockpit or B-Quik.

If I fit a pair on the front - 195/50, is it still okay to use the 185/55 on the rear?

Car is a front wheel drive, so I would guess yes, I would guess that it is a big no no for a 4wd.

Just done similar on my UK reg Ford Focus, but thewider tyres are on the rear. Have you considered trying the combo the other way around? i.e. swap the rears for the fronts?
Fitter told me there are numerous acceptable combinations for this vehicle.
The bit about rubbing the fender sounds deffo dodgy though. Should get it sorted before some fat bastard gets in the front and strips the casing.

The R stands for Radials, right?
