^Pierce-Arrow? Except for the split windshield.
Nooo...
There is a link with Rolls Royce and Hispano Suiza in that these companies each produced aircraft engines. And at about the same time....
how about a Isotta Fraschini tipo
Daimler.
the split windscreen had me buggered as well, most cars had moved to a one piece.
Ooooh, there's nothing like waking up in the morning and finding you've got a nice woody. Yours is indeed a beauty Earl :)
I reckon it might be a Pontiac, mid to late '30s?
For others elsewhere in the world who will be waking up shortly, here's another Woody, this time getting a bit of a rub:

^ as this is a sensible car thread: the one above is a '48 Pontiac apparently.
Not sure if I've got Earl's or not, but to keep things bubbling along, here's another one:

Now in fairness I might add it's not a production car, but a one off that was inspired by a far more prosaic saloon. I make no excuses for this as I reckon the car's bloody gorgeous. You wouldn't be on this thread if there weren't traces of 10W-30 in your veins...
The car it was inspired by is seen in the background below:

What's it all about then?
Kinda a retro Volga on chassis of 850 CSI.

The black car looks very much like it is based on a Volga design, or could it be a Moskivitch?

It is pre-war and from Detroit. But not a Pontiac.
Buick Eight stationwagon?
Just looked again at the Woody - is it a Chrysler? The emblem on the rear wheel spats looks a bit Chrysler-like, and the hood ornament looks familiar in a New York landmark sort of way.
In deference to QC's wisdom I'll guess it as a late 1936 model (December perhaps?) :)
BTW - to Bob, Jim & Tax, yup, the inspiration came from the Volga. It's called the Volga V12 Coupe and it is based on a widened BMW 8 series floor plan.

A stunning bit of kit I reckon.
^ Yes, very nice. I would like to see a lot of the old designs re-introduced, meaning keep the external look but update the mechanics, etc.
^ yup, the Volga's a handsome beast, here's a (final) photo that I couldn't post before as it tells you what it is on the back...

I have a real soft spot for the big 1950s/60s luxury coupes. They must have been so different in terms of size, capability and style from anything else bumbling around the roads at the time.
Here's another one, actually probably one of my all time favourites from the marque:

Anyone?
Yup, it's an easy one, the Ferrari 250 GT. Sadly a fair few of these have been butchered and turned into replica GTOs which fetch a lot more money.
Here's another one then:

Getting closer, it is a 1937 Hudson.
Hazard a guess on this one?

No guessing just enjoy?

Here's another GT man's car.
(Edit) well that didn't work on the iPad ....
^^ spot on Bob, Iso Rivolta it is.
Here's your Facel Vega:

OK, a bit less sporty and from a decade earlier, but quite a machine for its time nonetheless:

Looks more like she's from about a century earlier although the car is nice though.Quote:

The Facel Vega HK500 production ran from 1959 to 1963. The model of car I've just posted was produced between 1958 and 1963, albeit this one is a Mk 1 so pre '61.
I thought I might have actually been underestimating it a bit when I said a decade (although I was pretty sure it wasn't a century...). The two cars were actually manufactured at exactly the same time.

Thank you
Ahem (pause for everyone's attention)
Is it a Hudson?
Only joking. The Swan hood ornament leads me to believe it is some sort of Packard. No idea what model though.
Packard is correct. It is a 50's Packard so the rest of the car is ugly, (no pics)
One of the best hood ornaments ever, me thinks.
mr earl, i knew the hudson by the teardrop lights, was a few years before anyone else used them.that woody stumped me because the american makers like ford, gm etc
made so many models and changed the front with updates all the time.
Agreed, it's a stunner that one.
I do like the idea of hood ornaments but I guess in the interests of pedestrian safety (boo, hiss, tell 'email to drive) they probably had to go.
One car manufacturer I can think of still uses a type of hood ornament, somewhat appropriately given the car's normal customer it's vaguely knife-shaped and blood red...:

Anyone know what it is?
Then this concept car should be easy?
