I got 84K km on that first set of Michelins.
If you have to look at front wheel drive are very hard on tires.

    Rear wheel drive last longer.
I had Bridgestone 120,000 klm 2 years old still had a lot of tread left on the tires.
I took them of as the tires rubber was to hard.
The guy at the tire shop told me to change them every 2 years as they get to hard & not good for braking.

No curbs, a fair bit of roadkill (already flattened or near so) but a lot of potholes.

Paid 6000 baht a few years back for 4 Maxis ( local stuff ). Been o.k. and can't see any point in splashing out for more expensive ones since driving around localy its an event if I can get to use 5th gear. Rarely go above 80 kph.

A neighbor was selling his pick-up and put new tires on it before the sale, think he said that he got a set of refurbished or remade tires, that are old tires melted down and made into new ones, and cost 4 or 6k for the set.

^ wife said the tyres she had put on were 2013.

If they are old do they harden up, lose their rubber qualities that help to make a good tyre?

Yes the older the harder the rubber, when they are to old take longer to stop your car

^^ No idea. Didn't know that tires came with manufacture dates molded into them tbh.

Most tires from china, and korea don't have the dates on them...bridgestone does, and on the OUT-side of the tire....they make a point of showing the country of manufacture as well on the out-side.....they say their tires are the same quality made in japan or thailand. The reason I guess is a lot of big name tire companies produce lower quality tires made in china, korea, and thailand.....thinking no-one here cares where they are made.....go for the el-cheapo.......

There is another point many people don't consider....we don't get much rain in thailand, but when we do, it comes down in buckets....with the quality of roads and drivers in thailand you might want to make sure you have close to half of tread depth when in the rain......hydroplaning down a crowded road with bikes on all four sides of u could be a life shortning experience, and lastly.......never,ever, check the tires on the bus you are about to board......I swear....u will rent a car thereafter no matter what the cost.

^the rain in Bkk seems to have been neverending over the last 3 years.

^^fair points. I don't think you can waste money by buying good tyres; they might literally be the difference between a fatal crash and survival. That's why I asked the missus to get decent tyres, even if she's a cheapskate and didn't pay too much for them.

She goes at least once a week, 200 kms up Rama 2, to Nakon Kanom, travelling at 140kph (I've asked her not to exceed 110kph...); it's a dodgy road, full of awful drivers like her, so a decent tyre is a must, imho.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

That road that starts out as Rama 2, the missus drives down it, past Chaam then to a clinic for some acupuncture. Must be close to 200kms; maybe 170kms, but not less.

I'm not sure if it is called Rama 2 all the way down, probably changes to a number, but it's a straight road, a continuation.

The Bridgestones I have on my truck have been crap since day 1. Way too hard to offer any real grip. I can't bring myself to get shot of 4 tyres with hardly any wear though. I might pop down to a local tyre place and see what they have.

Any recommendations for stickier road tyres on a truck?

Rama 2 stops at Phetkasem Rd that runs from Bangkok to Sadoa on the border Malaysia.

I hope that help you as Phetkasem rd passes 400 metres from my home.

The tires that you have squeal when you stop, turn a corner & accelerate.
Don't know if there any soft compound tires, only very hard compound tires for truck.
The tire people would be the best bet
Marmite you should be able to get a good price for your old tires.
