How much load can these Thais carry on their pickups?

    Apparently not this much...

Got this snap yesterday on the way from CNX to BKK (driving).

The guy underneath was not too impressed at my passing by and rubber-necking from across the medium strip, U-turning down the road, slowing to almost a holt to take the picture, U-turning back again and pulling over to take the above picture (the ones where I pulled up on his side of the road were too close up).

Fukn hilarious - though someone will be losing out big time on this. I don't think insurance covers this type of damage, that's assuming the driver had a licence and the car was registered and insured (unlikely).

It's like some fukn he-man quest to see who can jam the most on their trays. I know they take pride in it. I've overheard Thais boasting to each other of how much load they carry.

Must've been pretty heavy crates to snap the fucker in half like that.

Possibly a dodgy smash repaired vehicle. Not the back and front tires are different.

I'll never forget my first trip to Thailand. On teh way into Bangkok from the Airport, i witnessed all kinds of oddities on the road.

Pickups overloaded, Taxis driving like maniacs and not signalling, people in the back of wagon type vehicles unrestrained.

Those very moments made me realise i was in a very very fucked up country

He needed to strap that lip that came over the cab roof to the cab. An elastic band strap through the windows could have done it.

Why are these people so feckin dumb? I have seen many vehicles bent and bowed in the middle which have obviously been repaired at some point.

You'd be forgiven for thinking so especially in a crisis like this but he was under there with a shifter trying to fix it.

I'll admit to being stoned at the time, but he was not sleeping. In that photo he appears to be assessing the situation. He had a large sized shifter you can't see in that pick. He shook it at me when I went past him first time around. Actually this is after we tripled back and took the photo from the other side of the road, so yeah he could well have fallen asleep between the shifter shaking and then (5-10 minutes).

    1. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shister - One who speaks bullshit fluently in order to fool people out of money or other possesions, often associated with used-car salesmen.

Or shifter - a compound word made from shirt and lifter.

Yes in Aussie they are called shifters - adjustable spanners.

It may have just been his weapon though. This genius could possibly have rigged up a mechanism to transform the ute into a tent to sleep under on the side of busy highways.
