Me 52 - Biking since 16 had over 100 bikes, living in Pattaya 3 years .....

Went into Mityion in South Pattaya Road today to get my scooter serviced.......

Took the opportunity to have a good look round the new CRF 250 L which i was considering to replace my 12 month old PCX.........

A few years ago i had a Honda 400 NSX Falcon - which was prob the best "all round" bike i've ever had - a delight on the road and tough enough for some minor off road riding....

i some how thought the CRF was going to be a 250 version of the Falcon, which would make it ideal for the busy pattaya traffic.

How wrong i was - Its more off road than on road (IMHO) - Seat as hard as a rock, with a tiny pillion seat, proper enduro tyres - in fact it reminded me of the Kawasaki KDX 220 that i owned umteen years ago.

But the problem with the KDX for me was it was great off the road, but pretty darn horrible on the road - hence why the NSX Falcon i had several bikes later was such a breath of fresh air....

So my conclusion - for day to day driving round pattaya, bit of shopping here and there, taking my missus on the back and some "days out", the CRF 250 L would be a complete non starter for me.....

If i lived out in the country, where most of my driving was off the road, drove mostly on my own, wasn't bothered about a numb bum - then then i might consider one...

    Ok i'll bite.

No s@#t sherlock. It is a offroad bike.

I'm sure you mean 16 year and 100 mopeds later....

Seriously, if your riding in town and fancy a moto style get yourself a D-Tracker. I just got one, less than two years old and less than 3k mileage for a 100k+

Use it once a week to fetch beer from 7/11, maybe take it up country for some riding once the rain stops.

No. You have no chance of getting one of those.

    ^ True....

There are a few Yamaha XT660's around though for about 200-250K (used but not abused) and definitely worth finding if you want a good on/off road bike.

There is one on Thaivisa classified's. no pics on the website but the bike itself is immaculate, has 50k of slip on's fitted, well worth a look, old matey wants 200k for it.

Picked mine up last weekend and loving it.

    Fitted some aftermarket fat bars:

It's a nice bike around town nipping in and out of the traffic and very easy to ride. It as a reasonable mid range and had no trouble riding as fast as I needed to go. I took it around the hills and it struggled a bit on the hills but would have been ok if I caned it a bit more but I am running it in. It's a good step up from a scooter anyway. Hope to fit a more open pipe and filter soon and ecu to suit, that would probably do me fine.

Anyway, you should never have got rid of your SR. Lovely bike that was.

    You mean the W650?

Still have a soft spot for that, it was a great bike but I am happy with my Thruxton with real tambien rot and full insurance. If I pulled my finger out I could have got a tambien rot for the W easily though, nigh on impossible now. The Triumph is the real deal even though the "W" out Bonnies the Bonny in the details. 'kin love that Thruxton though.

I rode a friends one while on a multi day ride the other week. It seemed to be a pretty decent bike but it was just too slow and underpowered for my liking.

My apologies, seems you are right. I haven't read all this article but this guy reckons you have to give the engine a good thrapin'

There's a very small window of opportunity to get the rings to seal really well ... the first 20 miles !!

Yes, that is the formula I follow. Makes sense. I got 350k's on mine, don't have to worry too much.

I forgot you still had the Triumph. I'll let you off then.

I am planning on getting a CRF and done a thread in November 2012 to get some views on the bike.

Fucking fantastic response from TD members with motorcycle interest.

    Had one response from Vocalneal!
    Grateful for his help.

Bung as you now own one that,s given me a bit of an insight from just viewing at the dealers. Cheers

I have been quoted 120.000 best price, this from the same dealer we bought the wife,s wave as well as the father buying a wave.
My best price prior was 125.000,both quote for a stand bike.

Just ordered myself a CRF 250L today! For all of you moaning about the price in Thailand please think about me! Cost 180,000 Baht in Laos!

Can't wait to get there and get on it!
