Got caught driving at 135mph somewhere down south on a clear carless motorway, rushing back from work to a g/fs birthday. Lost me license for a year, and me job; shit job, no loss...

I drove much too fast in those days, idiotic youngster... I changed dramatically many years ago; save as houses I am now.

    Cycling should be banned!!!

    "Don't Fortuna's have mirrors?"

Well, thing is, a GT2 will hit the speed of 175mph within a mile [1.62km] from a standing start - and still be accelerating hard! Fortuna Dude'd be lucky [or not] to see him coming and/or appreciate the rapid closure rate.

Again, may the innocents in this episode RIP.

^ I've been driving down Rama 2 recently and nearly pulled into the path of a Beemer doing, I'd guess, 180kph+; when you're used to vehicles doing about 120kph with the occassional nutter doing 140kph, then these rapidly moving vehicles seem to come out of nowhere!

(Kwang: it wasn't just any old Rover SDI, mate ...)

^ yeah, I was stupid. A youngster; I paid 400 quid for a beat up old shit heap with a suped up engine and massive racing exhausts - it was bloody fast until you came to a corner...

One day, as I was steaming along, flames started to come out of the engine... I was on my way to a job interview, got out and left it where I was, walked to a phone and called a cab; got the job and they gave me a company car to drive home there and then; never saw the Rover again... The neighbours were happy, it was the loudest thing you've ever heard. A right death trap, lucky I didn't kill meself and take out a few innocents... We live and learn.

GPS-verified 191mph on my Hayabusa out in the desert east of San Diego (if you're going by your speedometers, you can probably drop 10% off your mph- manufacturers tend to have them err on the 'happy side')- I rarely took that bike out when I didn't break 150mph- looking back, I am surprised I survived it (and zero speeding tickets, which was a miracle).

I hit ~110mph on the only straight-ish piece of road on Koh Samui once on a CBR-900RR- ironically, it was exponentially more dangerous (and stupider) than my desert run.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Okay Betty B, you've got me. I was kind of avoiding the "there I woz" trivia on this thread, but 170ish mph in a 400quid SD1? C'mon, spill the beans; let's hear the engine power/torque and gearbox/diff numbers!

Or was it just fitted with a "talk" converter

^ I don't know. I was a kid, and didn't worry about all that shite; I know it was previously used for racing and had been bored out to 4.2; had this tiny wheel which was a complete danger; and these 4 massive exhausts; got stopped by the police all the time, but the documents were proper.

The speedo wasn't standard, probably came from Rinspeed...

This made me chortle. Reminds me of swerving slightly when my mate was falling asleep, so his head clonked into the side window. He woke up properly the third time...

The number of times most of us have come close to killing ourselves or someone else, but didn't is the only difference between us and some of these idiots we rant about. My early cars where 850cc mini's. The good ones had doors that stayed on when you opened them and plywood to cover the rust holes in the floor.

Also brakes where an optional extra, that I could never afford! At 100k the vibration became that bad that it would have been impossible to steer if it had not been for the 1/4 turn play in the steering wheel. When you survived a run to the Lakes it was celebration time if you only had minor breakdowns that did not need AA relay services.

    God them where the days!!!

I find it hard to believe he could have been going 280kph on the Don Muang expressway and maintained control. Going that fast on that road, with all the bumps and expansion joints would be a hand full and its not all just straight.

Here’s a Boxter going 175mph/280kph on the Autobhan. Imagine that is the middle of the night on the Don Muang.

I just don’t see it. 140-150 mph maybe, but even that is pushing real hard.

The OP suggests he didn't maintain control.

Sorry BB. The site seems to want to attribute that nugget of insight to you instead. I'll try again.

Nice videos gents. I think. The Boxster [please note the spelling] accelerated so s-s-sloowwllyy I think I may have fallen asleep. Over a minute in from a rollon start and it's just clocking 140mphish. The GT3 is getting there, but wasn't really unleashed. Thankfully.

What I'm trying to get at: the - for better words - MORON driving on the DM tollway probably didn't have a full appreciation of just what an animal car he was not in full control of. Until perhaps the last milliseconds of his sad life. 0-300kph [186mph] in a little over 30secs is REALLY moving out. Whatever speed he was really going, we can assume it was WW-AAA-YYYY to fast.

One of the most mature overviews of the [3rd gen] GT2, sans schoolboy crap, can be found here: . The reviewer, Chris "Monkey" Harris is probably the best wheelman in the current crop of motoring journalists [sorry Tiff!]
