Bikes - Farang Idiots - Crash Helmets

In the 70's Thailand brought in the crash helmet law for motorbike riders, in the last 10 years or so they have been enforcing it it areas such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, so why are there still so many idiots not using them?

Here is a perfect example of a farang idiot, not only endangering his life but also a childs life, still, he's only nipping down the market, nothing can happen, can it?

How many farang idiots in your area that don't wear crash helmets on their bike?

When ever I see a fatality regarding motorcycles in
LOS especially, it sends shivers down my spine.

I hired motorcycles for years with Flobo on the
pillion and we never wore helmets if we were away
from places like Bangkok, nobody seemed to bother
    in any event.

I feel quite seriously disgusted with myself that I
jeopardised both of our lives and indeed futures in this way.

The feeling of freedom, well it's really a load of bollocks,
    so crazy it's untrue.

It was never clever, it was total stupidity.

Same with The Trike years ago at home.

Wear seat belts, you don't need a helemt.

No seat belts you do need a helmet.

It was 2008 when I last rode a motorcycle.

I'll not be doing it again, at all.

We were more than lucky, so many were not given that blessing.

Lots of numptie farang blokes riding around sans helmets where I live now.

You just get used to the local morons and their Darwinian riding habits, and then a fresh batch of foreign Lemmings show up..

I'm going to weld some railroad iron around my truck and see how many I can wipe out.

I believe the farang death toll due to "trying to drive a motorbike like a Thai" is quite horrendous, especially in places like Samui.

Riding a pushbikes not quite in the same league as riding a high powered motorbike, pissed up and with little local knowledge.

No helmet fair enough up you but to have your kids riding unprotected is just irresponsible. I think SS was more getting at the riding a pushie the wrong way down Ramkas soi 24, a busy area with aggressive buses making sudden moves into the curves.

    Say what??

You think being strapped to a scooter or trike makes it safer? Just thinking of the mechanics of an accidents, think I'd rather be free to part with the colliding vehicle than remain strapped to it in the case of an accident. Helmet or not.

Comprehension of English not your strong point, read it again, slowly, you can even move your lips if that helps.

Settle down dawg. Have a look at the pic...or are you not very visual? Is that not a seat belt hanging off the side of the trike?

Is this not a pretty stupid fucking idea?

I don't think you grasped quite what I was pointing out 9999.
DD mentioned something along those lines.

Being strapped onto a trike will not improve or make riding it
    safer at all.

I was basically attempting to get across that I have
given good thought to riding any form of motorcycle
    a real high risk factor.

Trying to point out the law with regard to riding a trike,
I thought was a good example.

Why on earth you don't need to wear a helmet if you
wear a seat belt is somewhat absurd.

We don't always get it right.

    Do we?

Every year in the UK there are in excess of 28,000 casualties
    following motorcycle accidents.

In many cases the injuries are very serious,
there is no doubt that motorcycle users are
    vulnerable on Britain's roads.

In places like Thailand they are positively collaborating with death.

Holiday places especially bring out a concealed form of
machoism in men with regards to riding a motorcycle,
in shorts, tank top and no helmet.

You wouldn't even think about doing it at home.

I have reflected quite strongly on some of the
things I have done over the years with regards
to basically manifesting a self assertiveness in a
    foolish and irresponsible manner.

Simply hoping that some younger man coming up,
might just heed the words and stick with what he
    knows best.

    Driving a car.

With regards to Thailand and other such holiday spots.

It's ridiculous, but very true, that anybody with a
few hundred baht can get on a motorcycle, ride
it on busy roads, among drugged up, pissed up motorists
    and wagon drivers.

The number of deaths is also high. I don't have the figures
to hand but no doubt accurate statistics are available.

I've read somewhere it's about 13000 deaths on the spot of accidents per year in Thailand. Not counting those who die in hospital later following an accident.

It's not easy to be this stupid; Socal works hard at it...

Now, saw a low speed (10kph) crash into a car a few days ago - the bike went down slowly, dad fell off and grazed his knee, fat mum fell off and didn't hurt herself, child, about 3 or 4, had nasty looking head injuries, might've been fatal.

    Just sayin like...
    Cycling should be banned!!!
