    Thailand Travel Tragedies

Looks like this webite is up and running now.

Thailand holiday fatalities & serious illness cases | Sarah Carter New Zealand

Obvious what the content is all about, so I won't go into it.
Not too much content at the moment, but am sure it will build as time goes on.
    Here's their front page...

This website has been set up to list all occurrences of fatalities or serious illness contracted while visiting Thailand.
The idea for this site originated from the circumstances surrounding the mysterious passing of Sarah Carter, a healthy, intelligent and sensible person who took all available precautions in terms of injections & tablets, and yet came home in a coffin. Two months on, and her passing is still unexplained.
The intention of this site is to alert all travellers to any potential dangers they face in a country perceived as a tropical paradise on the surface but which in fact has health & safety standards substantially below those of developed nations. The frequently heard stories of corruption and cover-up, of an undercurrent of sex, drug and child trafficking, and an environment of political instability may indeed not affect the average traveller, but leave potential travellers wondering if Thailand is indeed the destination of their dreams, able to provide an enjoyable and safe holiday.
This site will present unaltered and directly reported stories of travellers to Thailand, and allow all potential travellers an opportunity to judge for themselves whether or not the risks and potential pitfalls outweigh the surface charm and beauty of Thailand’s beaches, rainforests and markets.
Anyone is welcome to tell their story, which will be listed chronologically on the first page, but with the ability to sort by geographical location.

A real Thailand bashing thread Smeg would relish.

I did consider trolling the place with a tragic tale of me losing a sloth or something similarly stupid, but won't waste the time.

he should really concentrate on the corruption and cover up, and back off on the health and safety.

thailands health and safety standards, as laid down by law are probably not that bad. its the lack of enforcement, mostly due to corruption and cover up, that is the problem.

couple that with the young westerners (from "developed " countries) reliance on a nannying culture designed to protect them and compensate them into a false sense of invincibility.

it is the corruption and the lack of prosecution of the corrupt that is at the heart of all thailands problems (as seen by westerners)

Anyone been to bridge over the river kwai? bloody death trap nearly fell through the great big gaps last holiday. Bangkok must be the only city where the ramps up to pavements are not for wheelchairs but for motorbikes, must be several collisions a day there with pedestrians looking the other way.

    Thailand Travel Tradedies...????

Not to be unsympathetic...but what's the point of the whole site? There's no real information there about the woman who died in Thailand. Just a lot of nonsense about health and safety standards in Thailand...with no real stories (o.k. maybe there will be later), but now just b--------t.
I suspect it might be worthwhile if there ever is any real information there, but at present it isn't worth the time to read.
Some years ago I had a friend when who lived in Pattaya. He came up to Bangkok for a couple of days to take care of some financial business in Bangkok. On his way back to Pattaya his pickup truck was hit at about 1:30 in the morning by a Thai 18 wheeler semi truck driven by a Thai driver who was on Amphetimines....because he got xxxx baht per trip and he was taking Amphetimnes to keep himself awake to maximise the number of trips he could make. My friend was killed when his pickup was hit and thrown about 50 meters into on-coming traffic when the Thai truck driver ran thru a red light into the side of my friend's pickup truck. Just another trafffic accident in Thailand.
Bottom line: Thailand is a relatively poor country where money is more important than safty and health issues....due (in my humble opinion) to the western vices of big money Capitalisim and commercialisim which is polluting the traditional Thai society and traditional values...if you don't like that opinion you are free to object by posting a response. I first came to Thailand in 1977, and I can see how the attitudes of many Thais have changed since that time to the "money-is- all" attitude now common.
But that is just my opinion.

    I agree BBB

The idea of the site is good but it needs to focus on the real issues and get more hard facts on line. Health and safety is a red herring. If posters start using the site as intended it could be of some influence and there is evidence of that starting to happen if you re-visit occasionally

There will always be forum Thai apologists knocking any new idea or initiative. A Thaivisa speciality of course

That is what the site could turn into.

Everyone just writing any old stories about Thailand, people will jump on the bandwagon and start exaggerating or making stuff up.

Soon it'll be anything negative that will get written up, even being overcharged by a tuk tuk most likely, where it's tourists like them who keep the c*nts in business in the first place.

Surely you would be better to advise them not to eat at KFC.

I read an article on this guy, apparently he's gotta live on dry bread for the rest of his life.

That must be a medical first in history.

I expect it will fade away; there is nothing there that hasn't already had media coverage, no quality control as to what appears on the site - ffs I see one quotes this website as it's source.

Here is their #1 Thailand Tragedy

    Victims Name: Konstantin
    Nationality: Russian
    Tragedy: chronic illness
Was cause of death/illness known?: No
    Name of hotel/restaurant/tourist attraction: Dorshada
    City/Village: Pataya
    Region: Tailand
    Description of tragedy:
Good afternoon! I was in Thailand two years ago. It was about Pataji. I Lived in hotel Dorshada. It is about 10 km to the west. I have lain seven days in a bed in hotel. Symptoms: a fever and the strongest poisoning. I hope that my information will help somebody to show consideration for the rest. With the best regards!

    Tragic!

Reminds me of a death/drowning on Phuket 2yrs ago, every news reports after that for months involving a beach, or even someone getting a little bit of sand in their eye, prompted a response from the drowned man's mother in England and another rant re unsafe beaches. Achievd nothing. Part of their grieving process?

True, it's early days but they are beginning to get posters highlighting the problems which is more than the embassy travel advisories are doing

They mention several murder cases ( not all posts are trivial upset stomach complaints)
the site needs tweaking to improve it but it's a good start from a bereaved father trying to do something in making people aware of thailand's covered-up problems

One poster is advising people to look at Teakdoor if they want proof of how dangerous Thailand is.

Your points will be too subtle for some readers sunsetter

Think of the large number of people who were taken in by the April fool joke of TD and TV merging

You're right; there'll always be cover-ups to protect tourism.

In a sense it is a crusade. Pity the embassies don't start being more proactive and give out some more truthful advisories. Or would that get in the way of the gin parties
