OZ Embassy registration

Anybody actually registered with the Oz embassy that they live here etc.

It is supposed to help in times of emergancies, be it here or at home.

I was wondering if civil war broke out, that they might fly up here and pick us up and drop us off in laos ?

Also a little worried that they just want your whereabouts for legal notices, court summonses etc and how long is the limitations on stalking charges etc ?

Don't mention taxes.

Just wondering what they do and what you actually get for your free registration ?

I can only assume the Oz embassy in Thailand works the same as other Oz embassies around the world.

The one I'm registered with for my work in the middle east has a warden system in place. In times of trouble I get warden email and sms messages informing me of the current situation. It also includes information on evacuation plans put in place. I also know who the warden is and how to contact them if needed.

I also receive the usual email travel warnings issued by DFAT.

No idea on outstanding warrants etc. If I have any outstanding I haven't received any notification through the embassy system.

My registration with the embassy has helped not so long back when one of my kids needed my signature for a passport application. The embassy contacted me and within an hour had arranged an easy way for this document to be electronically sent via them to the passport office.
