    Hua Hin Immigration

Wondering how the retirement visa extension is in Hua Hin these days and how folks are doing it. Are any decent agents worth looking at? I lived in Chiang Mai for 9 years and the first couple of years were great but in the end it was all crap, long waits, and officers giving threats. Might be rebounding to Thailand after a nice stint in the states so looking at smooth options. All inputs appreciated.

There have to be easier options than HH, just based on numbers.

I'm in Chiang Mai, and every time it comes round I wish I was about 5km away in Lampun.

Maybe consider just over the border in Prachuap?

If you're married, is there a reason not to go for an extension based on marriage?

I would go there the first year to see how bad the experience is.

If you have an emergency send me a PM.

That's gotta be what everyone in an emergency needs.

Odd that no one has experience with immigration in Hua Hin. Have had several friends that spent time down there but never for an extended time. No news is likely good news as complainers would be posting.

No news is likely good news as complainers would be posting.

I had dealings with Hua Hin immigration from circa 2003 to 2016. Renewal of retirement "visas" and regular 90 day reporting.

For all all the renewals but one I went alone, and I was often given the run around, even though my paperwork was in order.

They seem to want to find errors, and if they cant find them, they invent them. Mostly regarding the bank verification certificate. I always went to immigration directly after receiving the certificate from the bank, but they would say " maybe you have withdrawn your money after you got the certificate. Go to an ATM and withdraw 100b and bring the slip back so we can see your balance"

Or they couldn't read the bank officials signature over the rubber stamp that certifies the certificate as genuine, so it was back to the bank to get another signature. There were incidents like that on 50% of my visits.

I think they just liked to piss people off, purely because they can. I always went dressed appropriately, and they often refused to deal with people who turned up dressed "inappropriately", which meant scruffy shorts and wife beater vests. one time a big german, harley davidson type, full sleeve tats, pony tail, earrings and attitude turned up to 11 arrived with a girl who was seemingly dressed for a pole dance and they both got kicked out, much to the amusement of everyone in the queue and the officials working the desks.

The 90 day reports all went painlessly though.

These days they have a secondary small office in one of the shopping malls, where they deal with 90 day reporting and tourist visa extensions. the officials there are as stony faced as ever, but its efficiently run. You cant renew yearly visas there though.

if you are prepared for all the inconvenience that you might encounter and are of a calm disposition then an hour or so at immigration is a good people watching experience . falangs of all types with their wives of all types nervously shuffling the reams of paperwork, some waiing madly in front of the officers in full grovelling gratitude mode as if their very lives depended on their benevolence.

i preferred to offer an unruffled businesslike demeanor, poker faced throughout and with a curt and slightly sneering "thank you" at the end once my permission to remain had been granted.

Percentage of useful posts has taken a nosedive. Pretty sad when taxeile is the most helpful.
