    12Call - the slippery buggers

Everytime I return to Thailand I have to get a new 12Call SIM card, which doesn't cost much and you get credit with it - and unfortunately the hassle of a new number.

I am about to get some business cards made, but I don't want to do this until I can be sure that the number will still be the same if I piss off for a couple of months.

    Suggestions and advice welcome.

My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Why? Can't you just keep the old one?

If you are willing to keep a sufficient number of credits in the account GS, you can keep your existing number. This is the case with Orange/ True anyway- we've had the same number for about four years, and we are not on a contractual basis.
So if this 12Call crowd won't do it for you, change your supplier.

I do keep the old one, I am not forced to hand it over with my departure tax - it's just that it expires while I am away, if I am away more than a month it seems, though when I check balance it says balance is valid for 1 year.

Could it be because I use all my credit before I depart?

Switch to the Sawasdee simcard (from AIS/1-2-Call) or DTAC Simple simcard. With any refills (even 20 baht), you get 365 days validity.

You checked your validity period yesterday, and you know it's good for a year, so why this thread?

I will ring 12Call (the company not my Irish friend) - so far Baldrick wins the green.

You can use a 12call sim card anywhere in the world. The number will be valid wherever you are forever if you keep topping it up (but cost you a small fortune to use when you're not in Los) & you can get a friend to do that.

Not sure about 1-2-call but DTAC has the option to extend validity for a year, with not significantly higher call charges.

Get a Thai to do it, can be done via the keypad without going through customer services.

Not sure- that would be a company policy. I doubt it's much.

12Call always sends me persistent reminders to top up when the balance drops below 50. Could be the cut-off point but I think as long as you got 1 baht on the thing it should be good until the expiration date. To be safe I would top it off with 300 baht before departing Thailand, I think the larger the purchase the more time you have until expiration.
