    Expat Food

I shouldn't be telling you this because you'll steal all my Jaffa cakes but 'Food Variety' on Lazada is a godsend. Pretty much everything you could want. Even Easter Eggs and Advent Calenders during the right time of year.

Extra point if you search their store for 'best before' for some great deals.

There's probably only about 3 of us living in Thailand anyway.

I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

I honestly think it's about the food that reminds us of where we grew up, what Mom cooked or what we ate on a special night out.

Tom is Italian-American. He grew up in a household that featured Italian food. I grew up in a trailer trash household where money was tight so food tended to be of a lesser quality, I still have nightmares about liver, peas and the devil's balls, brussel sprouts.

It's about diversity...when we went to the grandparent's house, it was steak and seafood (mostly oysters and shrimp shucked and shelled by my uncle and I). To this day, I don't care for steak, but would gladly slop down raw oysters...because that's what I did when mom and dad didn't have money, only we had to knock the oysters off the rocks under a pier.

It's all cool. I've learned about chip sandwiches here and have a new concoction for the ultimate in drunk food coming soon.

    devil's balls, brussel sprouts.
when prepared and cooked properly, they are a fabulous side.

cross the stem with a knife, parboil , then into a roasting pan, drizzle olive oil, add garlic, parmesan and chilli flakes. roast for 20 minutes till caramelized nicely( and if you are cooking meat or chicken as well then add the juices) , add salt and black pepper to taste.

^^ I think that sounds great.

Being lazy and usually short of time, I just boil a few sprouts with the peas every night and still thoroughly enjoy them.

I have to tell you Armstrong, that isn't Expat Food. It is processed garbage. Now some of it might be comfort food and maybe that's a better subject line .... but crap nonetheless. So don't worry that inventory will be there for you to buy anytime. The only reason it would sell out is because they tossed it as the date expired.

To this day I never understood why anyone would prefer a processed butter flavored margarine type spread over real butter. I think people years back reacted to some silly ass study by 5 doctors in a lab in nowhere land that real butter will kill you so out came all these vegetable oil spreads which funnily enough cost almost, if not more, than plain old real butter and are worse for you. Like the big Egg scare, Beef Scare. It gave new businesses opportunities to establish selling their processed BS food and then the health scare was lifted as being unfounded but by then people were already addicted to heavily processed food. Even growing up middle/lower class my Mom never ever bought those processed spreads or fake ice cream.

That is the truth Topper. Most of us to tend enjoy the food we grew up except for a few dishes that we all couldn't stand. I am with you, Beef or Pork Liver, Pea's, Brussel sprouts are awful and will never see a plate in front of me. My Mom learned quickly that she wasted her time making them as we all just passed on dinner that evening and walked away.(sans liver which my Dad liked for whatever reason ).

I am Sicilian-American and we grew up with both Sicilian and Italian food which was lots of dishes that would last a few meals i.e. Lasagna, Spaghetti, Stews, Chicken Scallopini and hosts of other pasta style dishes. Veggies ( Zucchini, Squash, Eggplant, Corn, Carrots, Lettuce) we grew on the farm along with some livestock. A big treat for us was my Mom's dad was a butcher his entire career so we got to have a nice cut of veal, beef and pork on special occasions.

True. I wonder the same as he is up early and stays up late and has a gardener/driver. Time management classes might be in order....

Maybe online, during his upcoming week off in BKK after his fortnight off in the UK, preceded by more time off in Isaan.

I called him out on this before and his answer was Korat traffic means he is stuck 2 hours everyday dropping off and picking up the daughter everyday.

But weekends? And school holidays? Presume the international school that mini mendip goes to has a calendar year of around 180 days per year.

Besides, he still has 22 more hours every school day.

Several things I could take issue with...

I have been a month on this UK working holiday and next week in Bangkok is anything but leisure. Two hospital appointments to start with, sadly one on Tues and one on Fri, so I lose the entire week.

I hope to find time this weekend to try out Tax's sprout recipe!

    ^ quite right, Mendip...

I left a nice photo for you on the final page of the Holy Land thread.

Poor old Armstrong, he's just trying to help folks out and share a link. You might not like those particular food choices, but no need to harass the poor fella. I've left you three very nice photos, Armstrong, on the Holy Land thread - but will put one here as a helping hand against these insecure ex-Empirites. Hope you had a lovely trip to Koh Samet.

    Cycling should be banned!!!
