    MOSQUITOS

Has anyone found an effective lotion/potion or any other means of repelling these little buggers apart from long sleeves / pants ?

    Aero guard?

There is a spray in tescos (not mini), comes in an orange can, might be called OFF. There is a powder dry spray, which is not very good, but the soid orange can is a light oil based spray, smells a bit like citronella. Never get a bite, lasts about 4 hours.

When I asked my wife why I didnt get mozzie bites while in Thailand, well not as many anyway. She replied its because we use lemon grass as a flavouring in our cooking.
If you use a spray on repellant, it should contain deet, the high the percentage the better, unsure if its available in Thailand.

This is the best stuff I've used too and it smells good.

Has anyone found a product, either plug in or burn, that actually kills the mosquito's rather than just repel them?

And has anyone used one of those 'Black Hole' machines you see in homepro and the like?

I've used Aero Guard, OFF and Lemongrass oil. Recently I've tried using that balm called Yah Mong.

The balm seems to relieve the itch and also seems to repel quite well and it's a lot cheaper than the others.

The OFF stuff is probably the most effective, I'd use that if I was going camping or something but around the house/neighbourhood the balm seems to do a good enough job.

Make a few of these. The little fuckers don't fly that far from where they are born, so put them about and you will kill most of them and not be bothered again.

I bought the black hole M10 from Homepro. I intended on buying two but only one was left. I bought the M10 and the cheaper version.. The M10 is shyte and cost 1500bht. However their cheaper 1000bht version Bio Trap junior frog is great. We use it in the bedroom and although it appears most have been killed by the scented plug-in device we use just before bedtime, there is always 10 or more mossies caught in the trap. Any mossies hiding in the clothes are attracted to the light. The M10 is an LED version and catches zero.

The frog looking ones. It's very good. BTW, it doesn't kill them, only captures them. However by the following morning they are all dead anyway. It's very good in my opinion.

What's the white square one on the wall called? (in the 1st pic) and is it any good?

Also I thought the black hole was 3500bt. They must have more models than I thought.

Electric plug-in's work for us at bedtime (not the sexual ones). Just make sure the windows and doors are closed

    They are both Black Hole.

The Square one is model M10 (15oobht) and only caught 1 mosquito in the week we used it.

The Frog one is called the Bio Trap Junior (1000bht). On the odd day I have counted 20 plus mozzies in there even when using the plug -in Bagon.

They both give of subtle lighting but not enough to disturb sleep if you use it in the bedroom. There is a slight hum but barely noticeable.

Where about's do you all live as here in Vientiane I don't see many mosquitoes at all to be honest.

Call me stupid if you like but I don't use any repellent etc... And in the last two months I have had at the most two bites. I can't remember the last time I had one my bedroom either...

Your area really must be a hot spot to have 20 in a trap! In my wife's old shop she used to burn citronella oil over a candle and again barely had a mosquito there.

I swear by Off.... the aerosol liquid version rather than the Dry powder version.

Great stuff but make sure you have a shower before bed to take it off before you sleep. It was only available in Big C here in Patong but now my local 7-11 stocks it as well as do pharmacies but at very varying prices.

At home I have a liquid pot type burner on 24/7/365 and the maid is required to make sure it is still containing enough fluid.... if not she just has to go and buy another one to replace the spare in the cupboard.

This led to a bit of training as to advance planning for possible crises but By George, I do believe she's got it!!!

    Off is the dogs nuts.

There is a product called Bushmans that comes in both lotion and spray varieties and we swear by it.I was first introduced to it when fishing in the creeks of the Northern Territory Aus.On the can it says it works for Sandflies,Mosquitoes,Ticks,Leeches and Marchflies.I reckon it works for Crocs and Water Buffalo too coz they never bothered us either.

I have seen it in some shops in Thailand but only sporadically.

Another good tip is if you can find a good Veternarian they make some sort of magic potion to keep the flies and other bugs off horses.Have tried it and it works a treat.
