Call 1111 for your friendly government call center. YEAH RIGHT

"Please call 1111 for the immigration information at the goverment call center."

    DIALING......
"sawadee ka... (something in thai), for english please press 9" RECORDED FEMALE VOICE
    i press 9
" please wait while you are transferred to someone who will take your call" PRE-RECORDED MALE VOICE.

    ring ring.. ring ring...
    "sawadee krap.."
I SAY " hello can you speak english?"
    "uuu sawdee krap"?
I SAY SOMETHING LIKE "i need the immigration department"
"uuu mai ruu.. (something more in thai)"
beep..beeeep...beep.. phone disconnects. I THINK SOMEBODY HUNG UP ON ME.

i tried three times thought i might get lucky and get an ENGLISH SPEAKING OPERATOR ON THE "PRESS 9 ENGLISH EXTENSION"

    WTF.

A human answered your call? That's already an improvement over gov't departments in many other places.

Too bad more Ferang Men don't read your posts. Best to practice birth control to avoid problems, which inevitably will occur. 50% of all Western marriages fail ... must be on the order of 80% of Thai/Ferang Marriages will fail. Think about it before you jump too far into the Thai muddle.

^That's 80% ex bar girl marriages, I'm afraid. Most are to delusional to admit it before marriage!

funny how i tried to joke about the goverment services and it quickly turns into a debate about thai/farang relationships. this is obviously because its all a conspiricy whether it be a bar girl in soi 6 a factory working women in ayuttaya or a goverment call center- yes they are all out to get out time and our money. they are sucking the life out of us poor poor farangs.

wait. i never even mentioned anything about problems with my girl- infact everything is perfect.

because my son is half thai i have to deal with his country.

but here is the ironic part.

on the phone to my embassy yesterday the young woman working there was having trouble understanding the address i was giving on the phone, so quickly handed the phone to my TGF who got all the info over in thai....

As the saying goes this is Thailand. It is more than a saying it is true. can anyone tell me they can go back to their own country and call a phone company, major car dealership or government department and get the option to press any friggin number for Thai ?
Why do lots of people expect to do this here ? I know it is an international language but I look on it as a bonus if offered the option here.
On another point there is getting far too much spam on every section of TD of late. Can the management either employ some more mods to delete it quicker or lash out some cash on better software ?
    Cheers BF !
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !

If you've been here 5 years then you should have picked up enough Thai language to visit a local immigration office and use Thai and English to get your point and requirements across.
Anybody who has been here that long and not bothered to learn the language basics deserves every bit of shit they get when dealing with day to day experiences.

yes all government agencies in my home country have interpreters and information on how to call using them (in australia), so yes one can ring up any department in australia asking for a qualified "friggin" thai translator (free).

and no i dont expect "them" to speak english for me. but they advertise this number as the call center for foreign residents to call with english speaking operators.

and my australian embassy provides many thai speaking customer service operators to take calls from thai people.

you perhaps misunderstand my point of view.

yeh but 20 years ago it would have been easier to "drink some tea" with the specific goverment officer in order to get things processed easier. these days there are so many laws and bylaws that not everybody learns and then they only interpret what they know as the law and then they wont take an offer of "would you drink some tea with me" so there fore it may actually be harder to navigate through all the crap- yes i would rather spend money than waste a lot of time to get things done. often the time is wasted getting to a certain stage and then the matter, what ever it is wont go any furthar..

i do prefer my country, there is little corruption at the lower levels of public service, but the laws a followed pretty much unanimously by everyone working...

so when i am calling up the government, im trying to get a centralized opinion of the law rather than just getting different opinions from different amphurs/immigration areas...
