I use UKFOREX to transfer money to thailand. The money is transfered from my Nationwide account to ukforex's Barcleys bank account in london , so thats free , and then ukforex puts the money in my Bangkok bank account. When you sign up you get the first two transfers free and after that it is 7quid for amounts lower that 3000 quid and free over 3000 quid. It takes three or four days.
I transfered 3500 quid yesterday and they gave me 48.08 baht / GBP.

I'll post later if I notice Bangkok bank charging anything , but they have'nt in the past.

Shocked at that charge! I have Svenska Handelsbanken Sweden and they charge equiv £3.50 per (40 kronor) transfer no matter the transfer amount. Bkk Bank in turn take a 200 baht service charge once the money is across. It takes 3 working days.

Is it a bank to bank thing or is it country orientated? Do all British banks charge the same amount?

You need to look at the exchange rate and the charges to calculate the cost of a transfer before making a decision boys!

Had the same thing happen twice with Bangkok Bank. An illegal charge on top of the swift transfer fee. I think it depends on what branch you are sending the money to. Mine was the main Ubon Ratchathani branch. Both times I was sending some money to help the inlaws, to a Thai national held account. Since then I make other arrangements using Paypal and a friend in Thailand who deposits the money in country. Fees are much less but only on amounts less than $5000 and the time taken is nearly 2 weeks.
