^You're going to have this inked on you in Thai script?

    If so, why?

Nobody but Thai will be able to read it.

Sorry to hear on the loss of your brother, but seriously, getting anonymous people to translate something into a language you cannot read to be permanently tattooed on your body is probably not a very good idea.

For what its worth - subject to individual interpretation and transliteration.

Thais (or anyone that reads Thai) will pronounce it as "Cab-ran" (Chab-Rahn if you wanna be a tit about it).

Yes, but any thai word written ending in ล (lor ling) is sounded as "N".

So be it. All who know realize much in Thai-English, English-Thai translation and transliteration is subjective. Hence, a single word may have several different transliteration.

There is in fact a formal official transliteration protocol. But, I don't have access to it right now.

I agree with Bowie's version of Francis ฟรานสิส์ (although Thais would prefer to transliterate it to sound as Frencis)

I disagree with Bowie's version of Enrique. It reads as Nayrika or Nayrigay
My version of Enrique is - แอนรีเค or even ออนรีเค - depending how you want it to sound.

My version of Cabral is - คาบราล

Neverna's is a better translation for the OP.

My own personal pronunciation of Enrique uses a hard N at the beginning. But, I'm a Northeast US English speaker - not very well versed in Spanish.

    OP - heed nidhogg;

Try it in henna for a couple of weeks or do an annual one month tribute in henna.

^ Good idea. Or perhaps dahyamcabral could get some wash off transfer "tattoos" made up instead.

    Welcome to the Buffalo Board...

Keep it simple...How about just one name, like Francis?...

Or choose the one name that looks the best to you...

Or his favourite nickname, perhaps...You don't need the whole thing...

No offence, but if somebody were to tattoo the "knickers" of some of our members, they would surely run out of skin...

    Heh...

I would also advice against using Thai script to write his name.

There is really no "correct" way to properly transcribe it from Latin characters to Thai.

It'll just look weird to have that tattooed in Thai.
It'll be like those morons who wants a particular name tattooed in Chinese and end up with something gibberish.
    hanzismatter.blogspot.com

You should just tattoo his name in Latin characters as it is.

Thai people traditionally don't tattoo words or phrases. Trust me, as a native Thai, I don't really recommend you tattoo that.

FYI, the most common spelling would be:

Francis ฟรานซิส (as in Pope Francis)
    https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B8...B8%B4%E0%B8%AA

Cabral กาบราล (as in Pedro Álvares Cabral)
    https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B9...B8%B2%E0%B8%A5

Enrique เอนรีเก (as in Enrique Iglesias)
    https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B9...B8%A2%E0%B8%AA

    FYI FYI
"c" and "que" and "k" are all pronounced like "g" or "ก". There are no "k" (like in English) or "ค" sound in Spanish.
Same as "t" which is pronounced like "ต" and not "ท". There are no "ท" sound in Spanish.
And "p" which is "ป", there's no "พ" sound in Spanish.

One will have to keep those in mind when deciding to transcribe a name into Thai whether one will use it's proper Spanish pronunciation or English pronunciation.

For example, in English, one would pronounce the name "Cabral" as "Kabral", while in Spanish it would be "Gabral".
So in order to properly transcribe a name into Thai, one must also know exactly which language the name is supposed to be pronounced in, to get an accurate transcription.
