    anyone have Thai lessons?

just noticed this section of the forum -

anyway I have 3 hrs with a Thai lady each week (a teacher that is) plus do minimal self study as well - this has helped my Thai a fair bit.
I'd like to do a more intensive course - like 20hrs a wk or something.....anyone done one of these?

There's a few that I know of. BangersPhil likes a place on Surawongse that was set up to teach Missionaries 30 odd years ago and I knew a guy who went there and it's quite intensive, 4 hours a day, five days a week for four weeks.
The AUA course is supposed to be difficult unless you can understand Thai very well.
Look in the BangkokPost classifieds for more and maybe try Google.

There used to be Unity Thai Language on the 15th floor of the Times Square Building on Sukhumvit (opposite McDonalds). Was 20 hrs a week, 6000 baht per month (80 hours). Good value but intensive.

I did this course for 4 months. intense isn't the word - it almost blew my mind but was worth it.

Then you will learn Thai you cant speak in public!! Normal Isan like a maid okay, but a hardened one, no way, she would have worse language than a drunk southern redneck talking to a little black dude who had insulted his girlfriend.

I had a really cute student come round to my place to teach me Thai twice a week. I could not concentrate on the learning bit, so never got much further with the language

A few of my mates studied with a 'school' that always seemed to double up as a dating agency. Lots of cute young Uni gals looking for pasty boyfriends.

Where did I put that number......?

I know a pretty good one it is called Pro Language on the North Pattaya Road.

It is very flexible, you can choose your own hours and days to suit your needs. And the teachers are amazing! Really nice people I'd call them my friends to be honest, very helpful. And you can start at any level.

It isn't easy they really do push you which is a good thing. Today I think I will take some photos of the place actually.
    Welcome to the jungle!

Being in the village there is still hope of being taught.

A friend of mine is being taught by the local monks at the temple in his village and he tells me it is great all he has to do is donate food to the monks. I dont know how willing you are but this isn't that easy my friend also tells me.

Trouble is, the romanizations are really awful and will lead you astray when it comes to pronunciation. Consider, for example, the name of the new airport. The official romanization is: Suvarnabumi

However, it is pronounced something more like: Soowannapoom

I'm still fighting bad habits picked up from learning Thai words from bad romanization.
