Glad the pics are coming out alright. They look huge when I upload them. Either imgur is resizing them or the new forum software is? Dunno.
Anyway, it turns out the decision not to stay in Thakhek was a good one. NK turned out to be quite a lively and interesting little place,
we were after hotel with a pool to keep the mini blds amused (and me ) after a lot of driving, dodging meatheads on scooters, goats,Iron Buffaloes and The newly rich Lao in SUVS with a total disregard for everyone on the road except themselves. it was great to be in Thailand where the roads are good and the locals slightly less fucked up on the road.
Checked into the Fortune Grand river view and at 1900 baht a night ( big enough for 1 Large Mammel a wife and 2 kids ) seemed a screaming bargain.
This is the one dj pat thought he had booked but alas , there are 2, one is better than the other, as pat found out.
Not the best maintained pool ive ever seen , but done the trick
Whats with these Large Chooks and the TD posters that get photographed with them?

Top marks again BLD.
Thank you for sharing your families experience with us.
The walking street they had set up reminded me a bit of chiang kan, a very relaxed vibe indeed
Had to explain to the boy that this is how TV,s were when bld was a lad. I can remember having to walk all the way across the room just to change channel. Fooking kids are spoiled now innit
And if you dont fancy walking street, Go for a dinner cruise along the mekong

Her indoors was most impressed with the designated bike path following the river, no vendors on it, no scooters just cyclists

Quite enjoyed a night in Nackon Phanom, next day we set of for nongkhai stopping at a waterfall that wasnt all that spectacular but nice enough. Followed by a trip to a very impressive Temple called phu tock i think, The fooker straddles the side of a mountain
I certainly enjoyed nackon phanom and wouldnt of minded another night there but it was just a short roadie and the kids had school on teusday, we set of looking for a temple called phu tock and found a nice little waterfall along the way
THAM PHRA WATERFALL
100 baht for 4 of us gets you a small boat to take you abuot a kilometre down the river to the waterfall
Quite a nice little spot, no vendors or garbage lying around you have to bring your own supplies and take your shit with you when you leave

A bit further down the road brings you to phu tock temple, mrs bld climbed it while me and the kids waited in the car
she said it was fookin scary
Not for the feint hearted or fat coonts
Jesus.....
Fair play to the missus.....and theres Pat with the No Fear t-shirt on stood in between a couple of cocks![]()
Looks spectacular. I cant green you again but do tell her indoors That I like the outdoors pics. Where is that waterfall, looks like a nice place to chill for a bit. Thanks for sharing the trip pics, cheers......the fishes.
Nice pics.
There's a bridge over to Tha Khek now?!
Last time I was there it was over the river on a long wooden boat. :S
Thanks for the pics, bld. In my childhood, we had that kind of telly too -the cabinet type. Good ol days. Cheers.
The path to the mountain-temple looks scary. But if I was there, I would've tried it too. YOLO.![]()
If there was a pub over the other side, he'd have been up it like a rat up a drainpipe![]()
