When i first started we had Roche mining contracted to do the Mining and Haulage, They were using the 777 cat which proved to be to large, they were moving more dirt than we could process or stockpile. Somebody fucked up. and we ended up switching to the little articulated Moxis operated by a Thai /Aussie outfit called Lotus hall. Later on they went Owner operator an bought there own gear
They also didnt like a bit of wet weather and were an accident looking for a place to happen (in an already fertile environment and workforce)
Lucky escape for the young Lady driving it.

This is the new camp HINSOM, i never really fancied it who wants to live in a 2 story block of modified sea containers, Plus if you were unlucky enough not to be able to choose your neighbours you get the Lao Karaoke club every fuckin night.
There they are. The fookin coonts
More instruction needed
Good morning mods. I see my threads been moved thanks for considering it a famous thread. I was actually thinking to ask you guys to put it in the Laos section. . Not sure why I stuck it in members only. Anyway I ain't done yet still got hundreds of pics to crack on with. Oh and cheers for a lot of greens people. Will post up a bit more later if I can tear myself away from puntys sex tourist thread.
Brilliant, keep the pictures coming.
Hmm now where was i?
ok, heres a few pics from the archealogy department, Its the first minesite ive worked on that had a dept like this but there was a good reason for it, They dug up lots of interesting things
It really is quite amazing the stuff that got dug up around sepon, most of the time the uxo team found stuff while looking for bombs and reported the location of the find so that more digging could be done
The arch team consisted of 1 expat from a museum in Australia and some Lao students from the Uni
This was by far the most interesting thing that was dug up. It was a large drum or pot, estimated to be 2000 years old. Again discovered by uxo team
This is what it looked like when cleaned up, it was in amazing condition, and made of a copper/bronze alloy
When they called the Lao national museum to report the find they became very excited indeed, The proffessor there knew his shit and asked of there was inscriptions of frogs and stuff on the base, and sure enough there was, seems they have found these in different parts of the country
Hows that for a WOW factor, I would love to have it in my mancave full of ice and beer.
We donated it the Lao national museum, hopefully its still there
Hard to believe it's been in the ground that long without deteriorating. Looks brand new.
More nifty stuff found.
The Early Lao invented the egg cup apparently
Great thread, BLD. Keep 'em coming.
Aerial view of the newer hinsom camp.
Some more from the arch team

I think i mentioned that the Gold plant was shutdown in 2013 as being uneconomical to mine. In sepon there were 2 types of Gold. Oxide and Primary, we were mining the Oxide as it was a softer ore to process and occured at shallower depths, studies were done on mining the deeper primary gold but the grade wasnt high enough to justify the expense of mining it.( more explosive to blast harder rock and modify the plant) The gold made a lot of money but was really only the icing on the cake compared to the copper
copper plant at night
gotta get searched before leaving the gold room
Nobody likes the wet season. Especially the excavator operator
This is the gold plant on fire, The emergency response team got it out before to much damage had been done

it got a bit singed
Back in business, All of this gold "Dore" was flown out by Brinks and sent to the Perth Mint for further refining

We used the Lao skway cessna caravan to commute
It would take 1 hour 40 minutes vientiane to sepon, so you better hope you dont need a dump, During the wet season we often had to turn back and land either at savannakhet or vientiane due to bad weather in the wet season, then Take a minibus instead , My knuckles were usually white when we landed, i hated the fucking things and had a sneaky suspicion the Lao pilots Fly like they drive.

Later on we lost the use of our airstrip for a couple of years due to a massive flood ( we also lost 1 cessna as a result of that flood) Then they started flying us Lao airlines domestic to savanakhet, then transfer to the 40 year old Russian Helicopter the MI18. That fooker was scary as fuk
This is the Mi18 the Lao President arrived in, Pretty sure his was in better shape than the one we used
Heres the Prez come to see how much GDP the mine is making for govt coffers

All due respect but this thread needs a title change.
The "How Mining in The Lao PDR almost killed me from what appears to be a series of accidents that happened with alarming regularity... New and improved, now with pornstars" thread.
It turned out to be one hell of a flood and pretty much shutdown the pits for weeks
our bar went under
Our airstrips near this shed
The Crew got to savaannakhet and were lucky to be on the ground when the storm hit
one of the cessnas didnt do so good though, that one was out of action for ages with a busted wing
Terminal was a mess to
