R&R in vientiane with a sidetrip to udon thani

Ive been living in vientiane about 7 years now and to be brutally honest as far as nightlife goes its fuckin boring , last break i had a week of and went for a wander and a drink, but somehow ended up in udon thani for a couple of nights

Needed a few fun vouchers so hit the ATM first

A couple of Bevvys in the dropzone

If you speak with a square tongue and fancy a natter then head of to the junction bar

    • A bit boring but the beers cold

Vientianes not a bad looking city but its getting pretty crowded the last few years and has a real traffic problem now,

If your a wine drinker then vientiane the place to go plenty of it and cheap.

Theres not to many but you do get a few beggers around downtown , like this bloke outside phimphone minimart

The highlander bar , a good spot on the river for a beer when the suns going down

This begger in the texmex bar is usually harmless unless full of yaa baa , then avoid the kunt like the plague ,

Not the bloke with the specs , thats a mate of mine

    The samlo bar,
cant get a drink here in the day but gets a few punters in in the evening

This is a new bar called IbEAM and seems to be more of a cocktail sort of a bar, has a good french restaurant above also

Some Lao blokes on veswpas at the bridge, i had thought that you couldnt take a bike over the bridge but asked the immigration bloke and was told you can if you are 3 bikes or more, then its considered a club ride

Nobody had organized anything for australia day in vientiane but one small bar in nutty park had crab racing on the pool table , which was pretty fuckin sporting of them i reckon

something else i cant get in vientiane , fresh seafood from a macro, they have been talking about it for a while though,

Single mans paradise if this stickers to be believed,

Back in Vientiane post more later

    highlander again,

Looked like the lao french owners had changed the bar a bit this time and had also lowered the price of a tall one down from 18 000 kip to 15 000 which is what it was before the boat racing, Still a bit of an armpit of a pub though

Recognise any of these aussie day punters marmers?

The one in the next picture is a spanish tapas style bar but some punters will recognise the location as the old hare and hound

i am yet to go in but it looks like he has spent a bit of money on it

theres certainly no shortage of different kinds of food in town but i was surprised to find civet cat and monitor lizards on the menu in a vietnamese restaurant . Turtle meat was the most expensive they had at 550 000 kip a kilo,

Monitor lizard and chips for lunch ?

    M'Ds and Pizza Co.

Vientiane has definitely in the last 2 years or so.

Who'd eat Pizza Co. in Vientiane?

I also heard there's a lot more streetwalking crumpet around the streets at night.

Me, for a start, and yes theres a lot of street walkers about but they are mostly socals kind, they are are all invariably uglier than a hat full of assholes though so it would be hard to get fooled by them .

For tarts head to the bor pen nyang or one of the numerous airport road bars after about 9.30 or so

whats the go with the udon slappers ? why all the tattoos

    Friendship bridge

This Lao style bar behind the Anou paradise hotel has a big tart scene , if you can stand more than 20 minutes of Lao music , foks sake

    the bor pen nyang

More than a few chutney ferrets here to, youve been warned

This little bar near the bor pen nyang seems to be vientianes idea of a jap hostess bar, always a lot of girls in here of an evening

The waitress at the texmex putting out the emptys

And for a decent steak downstaairs and not bad jap food upstairs this place is ok to

wasnt all that hungry so just went to the beertent

one of these old french colonial gaffes would make a decent bar renovated i reckon

They turned the one across the street into a bank

A large assortment of slappers can be found on premises here , you will need to speak a bit of Lao or just turn up fully pissed and speak in whatever tongue you happen to be using

i am guessing a cremation is out of the question in this temple
