Tubing in Vang Vieng over ?

I was in VV in 2007 and again in 2009.
I came down from Luang Prabang in 2007 by minibus,but would love to do it by bike...fantastic scenery. There were only about 3/4 bars then.
When I came back in 2009,there were bars both sides of the river and it was rocking!
I`d definately go there again,even without the bars.
Interestingly,the grass sold in 2007 was loose...when I came back in 2009,all the grass was being sold in vacuam-packed plastic bags. Obviously,big business had taken over.....

I had my fun there as did countless others, but after seeing the place recently i cant help but think the locals will be better off without the soap dodging banana pancake eating twats, Seriously it was becoming a fuckin disgrace, By the looks of things the locals are catering to a different, perhaps more mature kind of tourist now , The wifes uncle recently opened a small resort and is doing rather well, he had sand trucked in and dumped on his shore creating a beach like atmosphere with deckchairs etc , Locals often book well ahead to use his conference facilities and dont mind spending a few bob, He wouldnt make1 kip by catering to backpackers.


Probably have many disagreeing with me now, but if you were the averedge Lao geezer on the street witnessing the hedonistic antics of gap year fuckers and backpackers daily, Would you not be appalled if this shit was going on in your own backyard, be honest now

Anyway if you get up to VV as its reffered to on the uber hip backpacker scene and happen to spot some of these dinosaurs heres how to easily spot them

They will invariably be wearing a tubing in the vang vieng tank top
Dreadlocks
Conspicuous Tattooos
Unshowered appearance, sometimes accompanied by an unpleasant odor
Shirtlessness or generally inappropriate show of skin, eg ballbag or saggy tit hanging out

A big fuck off backpack

More to do with the fact that like 2 Aussies a month were dying in the '09-'10 hey day.

Not that most of you will see that as a bad thing, but probably not good for Laos tourism and diplomacy. Lots of people from other countries were dying too but I think the Aussies took the cake.

This is the riverside boutique resort and will set you back about a hundred a night, not unreasonable i reckon for a brand new hotel with scenery like that, good to see the Lao,s thinking outside the box

Nice joint good luck bringing in the punters I psoe big business is in on the action now. Still, tough to be the tidy rustic wooden place we stayed in overlooking the mountains and river, as good or better than in the pic, for 450 THB per night, into the pocket of a local family.
