o, I'm not taking the pee. This bloke can up and spoke to me at an event about a month or so ago. He opened his wallet to show his ID card stating he was Christian and a vicar. His photo was him in a dog collar.
Turns out he wanders around villages trying to convert Muslims to Christianity
Brave man, some might take exception to that.

You take note of so many little things that tourists so often overlook. Perhaps because you are not a tourist.

Its great to get a look at the real life behind the scenes.

Not sure I would want to live in a developing country though, even with the money to elevate my lifestyle a bit above the locals. It still sounds pretty harsh compared to the comfortable life we have in the west.
    Thanks for the comment.
Many here live a life of total poverty. I lived in a small village for a couple of years or so where many lived on less than Rp200,000/month (About US$23).
That means no electricity or running water, dirt floors and pretty crap food.
Be happy dudes. It's a lot more fun than crying.

What annoys me is when these guys block the tollway access road and roundabout every sunday morning...

I've never been there on a Sunday so I can't comment on that. I can tell you I wanted to take Michelle for a ride on one but the bloke wanted to take me for a ride to the tune of Rp200,000.
That, for those that don't know, is massive overcharging by local standards.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More rubbish dumping. This time just outside a main part of town.

You pay the blokes to take it away but they just dump it in some other bugger's back yard.

Got to put you right here - just because someone chooses to live in a shithole and post pictures of it, it doesn't mean that there is not a decent standard of living to be had by those who have a proper job. Fred chooses to post pictures that are hardly represent a balanced picture of life here.

As for the tourist bit - you are right there, many tourists choose to learn some basic Indonesian before arriving - it's the so called expats who after 10,000 years in their little enclaves who don't bother.

PS Fred, don't bother with Murphy's - firstly you'd be lucky to find anything remotely halal and secondly, it really ain't all that, food actually reminded me a bit of my mum's cooking.

KTP's now with occupation on them? I think he may have been pulling your old pencil.

That does sounds quite expensive, for a 10 minute horse ride. more like 20,000 I think (or less ? I dunno)

Do you have a KTP then ?

When I lived there I used to have a KITAS and mine did state occupation as well as religion. (locals obviously dont need a work permit then)

    NPWP Doesn't, well mine doesn't -
Reg on the first line, name on the second, address, then date of registration.

I remember filling in occupation for the NPWP. I don't carry it unless I'm going to the airport!

Yep, you can be as detailed as you want if you apply on line, but the card itself, like the KTP doesn't have anything on it apart from "swasta" if applicable (KTP).

Hope Fred upgrades his photobucket account soon - I for one am missing it already - if it hadn't been for Fred I would have thought that actually there were some good bits in Indonesia, not a rubbish dump inhabited by dossers and fuckwits. It's easy to forget when you have a job and live in a nice area, you end up thinking that Indonesia is moving forward and that it is good to be a part of it.

You're right on the NPWP, I checked now I'm home.

You're right on Fred's PB account as well! Did you see the full page 3 petition to SBY in the Jakarta post on Friday telling him to get his shit in a pile? Bloody brilliant!

I didn't but I'll take a look, to be honest I tend to read the local papers, Surya or Jawa Pos (nothing too heavy for day to day) and the kids were off school Friday so I didn't get a paper.

It's to be hoped that SBY does get things tidied up a bit - Indonesia is strangling itself at the moment, if it can break free then there is a boom on the cards for sure.

I did wander past a traditional market this morning. As many of these markets, it's filthy.
