Bogor - another weekend trip

Since it is Chinese new year holiday we've decided to head down to Bogor for a couple of days,no real plans will see what happens down there. (Though I will pack the golf clubs, just in case!)

Some 60 km south of Jakarta, Bogor is the "bo" of the massive Jabotabek conurbation, with 3,000,000 people or so of its own. The town was the capital of Indonesia during the brief British occupation, and under the name Buitenzorg was also the summer capital of the Dutch in the hot dry season. Located 290 meters above sea level, Bogor is noticeably cooler than the torrid lowlands, and the place where many of the Indonesian elite have their villas. Once a place of beauty, rapid development has turned central Bogor into the same congested mess as every other Indonesian city, but there are still rivers, canals, red-roofed houses, mosques, churches, trees, flowers and views of nearby Mount Salak to be had.

just arrived back, will upload the photos later this evening, though I can confirm the name Bogor, City of rain is a rather apt one!

Firstly we travelled through Puncak pass, its a very scienic area between Bogor and Bangung, now snarled with traffic, it used to be old tea plantations and so on, a little way past this area you will see them, but we didnt go that far this time.

however,

the beggars and touts make the most of it....

this area is also famous for fruit stalls along the side of the road....

we found a nice restaruant to eat at, lovely scenery and chinese music in celebration of the Chinese new year, food was ok as well.

anway after lunch we made our way down to Taman Safari, yep a safari world ararngement, it was ok. but a little crowded (and wet.) about $7 for 3 people entry and car.

we stayed that evening at the Novotel, probably the most expensive place in Bogor, but not really a bad price at $100 a night for a double with breakfast. Extensive grounds and an old world Dutch style about the buildings...

the next day was a golf day..... Club Bogor Raya was full but the next course I visited was Club Rancamaya, they could accomodate me after lunch! Green fee, caddy, motorised cart all came to about 450,000 rupiah (or approx $45).

i made this putt, abt 8 feet, i was pretty happy with it!



Caddy was ok, but not much use re: golf advice.



the water traps were not all that friendly..... but actually i only lost one ball today!

happy days, the caddy took her jacket off after the rain stopped. however, with my girlfriend with me I wasnt really allowd to chat to the caddy much!





these bunkers were completely unfriendly....
