I just wrote here my experiences of Bali, and i won't go back because of the annoying vendors. Guess you 2 didn't get annoyed by them because of the way you look/dress? That's how it works in Asia.
I haven't been to Bali since a young teenager in the mid 80s when my old man had a contract there doing whatever he did but I loved it but as a 13 or 14 year old who wouldn't. But isn't it the Thai equivalent of Pattaya these days as in over run with low end trash and sex tourists?
^ you think the whole of Bali is like Pattaya?
I didnt notice any beach vendors in Bali
I booked my first 3 nights on Nusa Dua beach and i'll rent a tour driver/car for 12 hours. It's 33 quid and you can give them a custom itinerary or do the standard touristy trail stuff.
After then i'll go to an Ubud villa with a motorbike and explore.
I'm not tooo arsed about beaches and sunbathing i just wanna see this and i'll be happy
^^Civilisation has its benefits.
(If you rock up to Ubud on a tourist bus, you are fair game I reckon).

I cant remember who we used but looking on google Alam Amazing Adventures gets great reviews.
Its in Ubud where it starts and i think it goes on for about 17km maybe more. Dont wear flip flops cus you have to do a good bit of walking downhill to get to the raft and uphill at the end. You stop for a break in the middle where you can buy beer too. Theres waterfalls, ancient rock carvings, amazing views and you go past a big posh hotel.
7 of us went on one with the guide who was good inculding my 5 year old daughter so its not too scary but you will love it. I did. And thatll be even better with rain.
12 kilometres it says on google
I just thought it was as like Thailand. Perhaps slightly more intelligent natives and better food, villas, service etc.
Inland for Chiang Mai type countryside. Average beaches like Phuket. Head into town for Pating or Pattaya-lite whoring.
It sewms like you walk down about 80 metres, the last bit with slippery steps is on the right.....
Some rock carvings
Beer stop
Dunny
Waterfall
Most of that i only got on video but that was the best memory of Bali for me although theres a good few. Top place loads to do
You know you like your cat and unicorn cafes, theres one in Bali where you can cuddle and feed a real Honey Bear.
Its on that list i made. I didnt get round to it though

NOTHING Like Chiang Mai, lovely mts, Volcanoes ( dont recall seeing any of those in Thailand LOL) lakes and rice fields.
u got to be kidding about better food... thai food is much better and cheaper, Fantastic resorts, villas for rent and outside the tourist areas on a bike its lovely BUT, like i said, traffic is a killer.
What struck me most is i love photographing people ( look at my thai, Burma, laos threads) Bali i shot very few people, most are much more westernized than the other 3,( even out of the tourist areas) even in the markets.
Ubud is amazing the number of cafes, salons, spas, ice cream shops & restaurants, small roads make sure u visit the rice terraces about 12 kms outside Town BUT go before 10 am, when i was told the massive tour bus's show up ( same for Tanah Lot).
Beaches nothing compared to Phuket or other small islands in Thailand but there is much better surf.
Only in Kuta was i offered girls and i have been told the clubs are full of Javanese girls and for the ladies the "Bali cowboys", although was told they are mostly from Java and Sumatra and looked down by the local balinese guys
Tanah Lot......
Lake Batur
sunset Mt Agung from Amed ( great diving off shore)
Un named west coast beach with Gilmanuk ferry to Java
Pura Ulan Danu
Rice terraces outside Ubud
lovina
Mt Agung
Kuta Beach
As to the above video hugging bears i find utterly terrible, wild animals are not meant to interact wit humans, same goes for riding elephants or having ur photo taken with tigers..
