I'd post a similar pic of me own but it would cause fits of apoplexy and heads to *pop!* I'm sure.

Yeah I genuinely don't know either. They're harder to remove when on that way which is good if it's just used as a fixed weight, pain in the arse if you want to change it.

Tend to loosen when around the other way as well.

Not many, and probably not doing a lot of good - but, maybe Cuju is taking some of the rings off and doing a nice load of sets? It depends how he using them, what he is trying to achieve...

I find these 8kg babies ideal for sets of 20 working on chest muscles, using with crunches for the back and stomach, and some arm stuff too - maybe 5 sets of 20 of four or five different exercises, once or twice a day depending on my mood, 5 days a week:

I do at least 15 each arm per set. Just (curls?). 2 or three sets but more at the gym.
I go to the gym more these days.
I use them at that weight. I don't take any off. At the gym I do 60 (30 each arm) at 10 kg, a couple of sets of 30 (15 each arm) at 15 kg and then a few sets of 10 at 17.5.
    Among other things.
You can't really tell from the pic but I'm starting to get a bit ripped. It feels good and looking good for an old fart.
Wish I'd discovered this shit yonks ago.

I bet. Your clothes will hang a lot better on you. I'm looking forward to get back into all my clothes in the wardrobe that I thought had shrunk in the wash

Do many, and often, and get toned nicely without getting silly big arms which will turn to fat once you stop doing it with big weights for a couple of weeks (which you will...); why do you wanna tear muscle to increase size? Surely it's a better option to just nicely tone the arms/upper body.

With all due respect, I do not think your approach with the heavier weights is the best way to go at all; but, your body, your choice.

That whole higher reps / lower weight thing for toning is a bit of a myth really.

Also muscle doesn't turn into fat just like water very unfortunately doesn't turn into wine.

    Err bollox!

8kg - 12kg is just fine for getting the muscle working with reps, but not tearing the muscle to build bulk (depending on your strength, of course, as I said, Cujo may just be really strong). Some folks wanna build bulk and that's fine, tear those muscles, but it's gonna go to shit down the road when you stop exercising.

Luckily for me, I'm naturally gorgeous so I just have to tone the perfectly shaped body God kindly gave me.

I'll accept that different folks' bodies work differently, and some folks love the gym work too - good for them. I hate gym work, don't wanna tear any muscles or build any bulk, but wanna be in decent shape which is easy to maintain and keep healthy as I get older with minimum possible effort. Plus, my dumb bells are pretty sexy, I might get another set in a contrasting colour (yes, I'll post the pic - dumb bell porn...).

It's not the micro-tearing that builds muscle though it's the repairing... Dead lift 300kg and bench 200kg, it ain't gonna do shit unless you're getting adequate calories and protein to re-build / synthesize the muscle.

Conversely lower weight / higher reps doesn't 'tone' the muscle because it's body-fat (or lack thereof) that dictates the 'tone' and spot removal of fat from certain areas is also a myth.

So it's not what you're lifting and how many times it's how because lifting weights doesn’t stimulate muscles enough for fat loss you need to factor cardio and nutrition also.

I personally think that a routine involving a range of weights and reps is best to keep the muscles constantly stimulated.

Edit: also think about the logic and biology of muscle turning to fat, it's impossible, one cell can't convert into another.

^ there were a lot of words going on there.

We'll settle this with an arm wrestle! Actually, best of 30, as my toned stamina filled muscles will come into play when your ripped arms have lost their power after the first few...

Well... Different strokes for different folks but I'm not sure if that burns many calories.
If you change over at half time, though. I reckon you're on to a winner.
