    Health tip of the day

It's really important you don't go to pieces in Thailand. My health tip of the day is not to drink your spirits with sugared beverages, ie; coke etc. At this present moment I am drinking a cheap whiskey labelled 'Sir Edwards' supposedly a "finest" blended scotch whiskey. I am mixing this whiskey with a stevia infused water, and it is surprisingly palatable. This is a another way to say, DO NOT drink sugar. It is poison. It is totally more healthy to be swigging your whiskey or any distilled spirits with sweetened stevia water rather than sweetened sugar water. Alcohol will deliver a single whammy to the liver. You do not want to compound this by delivering sugar to the liver. This will equate to a double whammy to the liver and will make it work very hard, a problem, which in older drinkers may result in fatal consequences (eg; death).

    todays tip of the day....
Elderly people who exercise 'live five years longer'

Regular exercise in old age has as powerful an effect on life expectancy as giving up smoking, researchers say.

The analysis of 5,700 elderly men in Norway showed those doing three hours of exercise a week lived around five years longer than the sedentary.

The authors, writing in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, called for campaigns to encourage fitness in older people.

The study comes as a charity warns about low levels of exercise.

In the study - conducted by Oslo University Hospital - found both light and vigorous exercise extended life expectancy.

Official advice in the UK recommends 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week in the over-65s.

    Boost exercise

The trial tracking 68 to 77 year olds found that doing less than an hour a week of light exercise had no impact.

But overall those putting in the equivalent of six, 30-minute sessions of any intensity, were 40% less likely to have died during the 11-year study.

The report said: "Even when men were 73 years of age on average at start of follow-up, active persons had five years longer expected lifetime than the sedentary."

It added that physical activity was as "beneficial as smoking cessation" at reducing deaths.

"Public health strategies in elderly men should include efforts to increase physical activity in line with efforts to reduce smoking behaviour."

The report did not look at how active people were earlier in their lives.

    'Too lazy'

However, the study comes as the British Heart Foundation publishes a report warning people are getting too little exercise.

Its analysis shows that the percentage of adults doing no moderate exercise is:
    ◾69% in Portugal
    ◾55% in Poland
    ◾46% in France
    ◾44% in the UK
    ◾34% in Croatia
    ◾26% in Germany
◾with Netherlands doing relatively well at 14%

Julie Ward, from the charity, said: "Regular physical activity, whatever your age, is beneficial for your heart health and ultimately can help you live longer.

"However, our latest statistics show that nearly half of people in the UK do no moderate exercise whatsoever - a rate higher than many European countries.

"Our message is that every 10 minutes counts and that making simple, more active changes to your daily routine can set you on a path to improved heart health."

Avoid eating too much saturated 'fat bastard' palm oil
the food manufactures seem, to be adding it to everything these days.

Manufacturers like palm oil for its stability (read: longer shelf life) and melting characteristics, but the bottom line is that palm oil is a cheap, unhealthy fat that is primarily used by companies to increase profits.

Here are six reliable ways to avoid palm oil:

    1. The most common name palm oil is disguised under is “vegetable oil.”

    2. Most prepackaged snack foods made by corporate giants (Nestle, Unilever, etc.) contain palm oil.

    3. If a product's saturated fat content makes up more than 40 percent of its total fat content, it will almost always contain palm oil.

    4. Ingredients with the word 'palm' in them are palm oil or are derived from the oil palm fruit.

    5. If you’re not sure whether a product contains palm oil, either type the product name into your search engine along with 'palm oil' and scan the search results, or contact the company and ask if they use palm oil.

    6. To avoid palm oil, choose products that contain clearly labeled oils, such as 100-percent sunflower oil, corn oil, olive oil, coconut oil or canola oil.

Was seated next a couple American tourist ladies coming into land at Krabi (big palm plantations over whole area) Told them they were palm oil palms...."what is palm oil" they said... read your next Snickers bar wrapper I said...lol

BTW coconut oil is 92% sat fat compared to Palm at 52%..just saying.
..a lot of Thai dishes would be really boring without coconut oil/milk...methinks.

Do not assume what works for one person will work for everyone in the same way. We are all different, thank goodness, with regard how we react to medication, diets, environments and alcohol.

    Don't Skip Breakfast
Fiber in the morning means less hunger late in the afternoon, when you're most likely to feel tired and gorge yourself on sugar. My morning dose comes from steel-cut oatmeal, usually mixed with raisins, walnuts, and flaxseed oil. An early start on eating also keeps your metabolism more active throughout the day; breakfast eaters are thinner than people who just rush out the door.

Not true for all. I quit eating breakfast in the Paras - after a 5AM formation and an hour of PT followed by a 5KM run, just didn't feel like eating. Am now 66, and have never started my day with more than a cup of coffee since then.

I eat two light meals a day, don't snack at all, intake very little sugar and weigh exactly the same as I did 45 years ago. People are different.

Saturated fat from coconut oil is the only known saturated fat that doesnt do you any harm, it won't stick to and clog the arteries at all, it is however much higher in calories than just about any other oil so needs to be used sparingly.
It's also excellent for oil pulling, that's where you swill a small amount around your mouth for fifteen minutes every morning, it pulls the decay out of your manly teeth, I mix coconut oil with Euthymol to make my own toothpaste.
    It also makes great lube!

Too much sugar in this. Dark choc is good but you will not find the percentage of such in the Bounty bar, 'cause it will be minuscule, if any.

Yes, research it, - you will find there is big LDL cholesterol & small LDL. The big LDL will bounce over the arterial fissures leading to the heart, whereas the small LDL will tend to be caught and accumulate. Coconut oil is the big LDL type.
