I'm just back from a nice fast walk in the rain. 8km / 5 miles in 58mins 30secs. My fastest yet.

    Before my walk, I warmed up with 750 sit-ups (10 x 75).

8kms in under an hour? that's jogging not walking Nev
I did 5.7kms in an hour and no one has ever overtaken me walking yet, even off the plane I catch all those fuckers up in biz class.

You must go round like one of those Olympic walkers with your arms at 90 degrees going like the clappers

Let's see your garmin watch printout

    Another famous Italian runner..

Dorando Pietri trained hard for the 1908 Olympics in London. In a race in Carpi he ran 40 km (25 mi) in 2 hours and 38 minutes, an extraordinary result for the times. The marathon, which was to take place on 24 July 1908, started with 56 competitors, including Pietri and fellow Italian Umberto Blasi. It began at 2:33pm. The weather was particularly hot by British summer standards. The London course measured 42.2 km (26 mi); the distance would later become the official marathon length from 1921.[4]
Pietri began his race at a rather slow pace, but in the second half of the course began a powerful surge moving him into second position by the 32 km (20 mi) mark, 4 minutes behind South AfricanCharles Hefferon. When he knew that Hefferon was in crisis, Pietri further increased his pace, overtaking him at the 39 km (24 mi) mark.
The effort took its toll and with only two kilometres to go, Pietri began to feel the effects of extreme fatigue and dehydration. When he entered the stadium, he took the wrong path and when umpires redirected him, he fell down for the first time. He got up with their help, in front of 75,000 spectators.
He fell four more times, and each time the umpires helped him up. In the end, though totally exhausted, he managed to finish the race in first place. Of his total time of 2h 54min 46s, ten minutes were needed for that last 350 metres. Second was American Johnny Hayes. The American team immediately lodged a complaint against the help Pietri received from the umpires. The complaint was accepted and Pietri was disqualified and removed from the final standings of the race.

6.4k every morning and evening, unless it rains like tonight. 49 minutes with a fast walk. 4 days a week is now half jogged at 42 minutes. Hoping to do my 3rd 10k in an hour and 10 by mid December.

I've always been quite a fast walker, even as a young lad

I've developed and improved my walking technique over the last couple of months.

I usually start off with my arms by my side like anybody else walking, then as I get faster my arms swing a bit but it looks a bit odd and isn't very efficient so I do indeed only move them at about 90 degrees but the thing that gets me moving the fastest is the legs and the stride rate. By changing my walking style a bit and focussing on pushing one leg forward fast and pushing more off with the toes of the back leg, I can get a good stride rate and a 1 metre stride length.

    Here are todays km times: 7m42s, 7m25s, 7m11s, 7m12s, 7m14s, 7m11s, 7m15s, 7m16s.

Actually, I was thinking it might be good to get together for a walk. Not for a challenge, but just to see what happens when two or three of us walk at superhuman pace in the same location.

That was a steady fast-paced jog. 2 water bottle breaks where I'd slow down to walking pace for 100 meters or so as I suck the goodness out of my Lifeline.

Will be a while yet before I'm keeping that pace for 8km in one go.
