Nope, I used to suffer from migraines so avoided caffeine like the plague and consequently I've got a very low-tolerance.Originally Posted by Slick
I tried a pre-workout once and driving to my gym became a very, very fucking interesting experience!
Also tried a caffeine-free one but it had zero effect that I could note. Bit pointless, kinda like decaf coffee I suppose.
As for pre-work out meal it was a protein shake about 20 minutes before.
Chest & Triceps
Still only going light so the body and muscle know what coming. I have to be careful in my mid-40s as I've had 2 injuries in the last 3 years.
Chest:
Flat bench BB Bench Press X 5
That was the only chest exercise.
Tris:
Y-rope (standing push down) X 3
Angle bar (standing push down X 3
Standing Overhead Cable Raise w/ Y-rope X 2
Cable kick backs X 2
Overheard Y-rope standing push x 2
No dips.
No CG smith bar bench press (my favorite) because I'm still getting back into it.
Nothing pointless about it at all - if you enjoy the taste but want to lower your caffeine intake.
I can't stand gyms, the smells or a majority of the people who frequent them, so
last year I commandeered the never used squash/racquetball courts on compound and washed em' down, put up some literature, placed a well-meaning punching dummy in the back, floor mats in the front and started denying entry to anyone showing interest.
A friend and I practice and do:
- stretches/cardio
- power yoga (can be grueling)
- stick exercises
- judo throws
- Vee Arnis Jitsu & Akido locks, throws, general defense
- Combatives
We have a lot of fun with it.
And sweat like pigs - there's no air-con - it's Saudi.
Just examples, we do much longer versions of things like thus:
Sorry, the thread is "log your workouts today," but we did a full 3 hour succession of the above this morning, so it counts.
I fecking hate the taste!Originally Posted by hick

Me either actually, so...I built me own.Originally Posted by hick

And yes, it does count.
Funny you say that as I quit alcohol but do partake in a few NA beers from time to time,... especially when camping b/c I love the taste of beer.
You'd be surprised - Saudi manages to stock some well-placed "beers" on their grocery shelves - still full of sugar of course, but not too shabby for the teetotaler-type.
Loads of brewers are getting in on the action:

Hmmmm....had a friend that beat me to the top of a Korean mountain once,...luckily,
(we were carrying rucksacks full of rocks <---that's my exercise angle) and these old men were sitting in a circle at the top offering him soju and snacks. They had some delightful "beef" and it turns out it was bull penis.
Other than that,... that same guy (current x-cise mate), wifey and I are heading out into the Saudi desert to see some natural formations, avoid the Djinn and hopefully meet some well-meaning bedo next week. Hope to have some fresh camel's milk through some trade. (They really like containers of any sort.) That humped milk really keeps the ole' energy levels kickin.'
Just one more thing Ant, and I'll let it go cuz it's the wrong thread but... - in case you do want to lower your caffeine amount, give this a whirl at least once:
That's the key, find what works for you because if it does, you will stick to it. Everybody is so different. I also prefer early evening. About 1 hr or so and done. Some years back when I got into it (Honestly way too much) it almost became an engineering experiment where I was over analyzing it all. Yeah I got fit and trim but what many fail to realize that adding bulk to build muscle is likely not sustainable and like all the body builders you see it becomes flab unless you plan on going to the gym everyday forever basically.Originally Posted by AntRobertson
For now this is all about off setting the other days when I eat a lot and have drinks. Of course there is the health benefit but I am extremely active by nature. At my age I still have middle of the scale BP, Cholesterol normal, Blood sugar index good, weight normal for my height and age. I take no meds and will work feverishly to avoid them. Once you dip into the pharmaceutical health management program, you are done. I have watched that happen to people over the years. They have those little Mon thru Sun pill boxes.
Still working my way into it light and steady.
Leg day
Squat (machine) X3
Ham Raise (machine) upward X 3
Leg Extension (machine) X3
Standing calf raise X 3
Sitting calf raise X 3
Time: 20 minutes.
Only 20 minutes.
But it was steady and I put forth good effort. This was the first time I've done legs in a few months.
Throw in a few half-mile high intensity intervals and you'll be fit in no time. 18 miles per day is a great base to work from.Originally Posted by CaptainNemo

Think i may have finger cramp
Last night after a 11 hour day at work
3 sets of 40 each
* Sit ups using a the core ball, knees together, arms out
* Jumping jacks
* push ups, 1 set arms and legs out, 1 set arms and legs in, last split
* Squats holding 15kg in each hand
Ended with a bottle of water, nice shower and a modest glass of a 10 year Private Reserve Russel's Bourbon for my effort

Great time - how long have you been running for?
I asked for that
I can't really say an accurate length of time. On and off since I was a yoof, but in terms of since the last time I started running again, which is the best way as it's almost like starting again after stopping for 6 months or so, I would say ... I'm not sure. I'll get back to you on that. I'll see if I can find my old running logs.
Soooo happy to see this thread going and as a sticky.
You guys are kicking ass!!!!!
As for me, well I've lost 22 pounds since December 2016. I did it by eating very well and exercising quite a bit. I got into spinning and yoga and was spinning about three times a week. I also went to a gym and did weights and swimming on top of spinning and yoga. I did a big variety of exercises. I then went to a Thai fitness bootcamp for three weeks and lost another 12 pounds.
I've movedto Shanghai a few weeks ago and just found a gym. I went a few times so far, and hope to keep at it.
Nutrition wise, I plan on trying to cook at home during the week and eat out a few times on the weekend. These last few weeks I have been eating too much and drinking.. I'm slipping!!! Need to get back at it.
What did you do today?
Done 150 km training ride(8 hours) for 2 audax long distance rides End of September for a 202km ride to be completed in a set time in a day and then a 300km ride in August again to be completed in a day with a cut off time. Just hope I make the time limits so I can get my medals for the achievments
Will post up reports and pics
ไม่ลองไม่รู้
^Cool.. what is audax? Is this racing you are talking about?
Pics and a report would be nice. I once did a 200km bike ride in Quebec on a national bike trail.. but did it leisurely over a few days.. no racing for me.
