    Fixing high blood pressure

I hate being an addict but that's what I am. Everyday I start the day with my 3 little pills for high blood pressure and if I don't take them by lunch time I start feeling funny. I hate this feeling of being dependent of these little pills. I remember how free I felt when I stopped smoking, it's not to fall again.

My understanding is the high blood pressure is due to very high stress level due to my job, the reason why I "retire", bad eating habits and very little physical exercise.

My goal is, by fixing these 3 points, to get off the pills as soon as possible.

Is it reasonable ? Has anybody experience of doing the same ? Any tips ?
The things we regret most is the things we didn't do

I have hypertension (controlled by two little pills) I have zero stress and I eat very well as well as daily exercise. My BP has not changed at all since I retired from a high stress job with lots of alcohol fuelled lunches and binge eating.

My doc told me that I could embark on an Olympic training program and I would still have hypertension because I'm one of those people who just get. (runs in the family)

There is no doubt that for some people, smoking, obesity and stress are the cause....for others it makes no difference. The good news is that nobody in my family has ever died from any of the things high BP is supposed to cause....like heart failure, stroke etc. Just hoping I'm not the one to screw up the perfect record....

I've had high blood pressure for yonks.... unfortunately maltreated/undiagnosed over several years whilst working in the former USSR. It has directly led to kidney failure and related issues.

I have, however slowed the rate of kidney function deterioration via controlling my BP.

    1) Lose weight. It's that simple. Just losing a few Kgs works on reducing your BP.
    2) Get a Dr that you can trust and that either specialises or has indepth knowledge of hypertension.
    3) Review your medication at least once a year.

I recently spent 7 weeks in a Thai hospital with an unrelated emergency condition. The BP control I received was excellent but since leaving hospital I am experiencing swollen legs. Mentioned this on my last monthly check up and it resulted in an immediate change of meds with a 2 week review (tomorrow actually). Some meds suit some people and in others produce unwanted effects. You really have to go through the cocktail until its right. However 8 -12 months later you may have to change again as they become less effective. There may then again be a settling in period to your new meds.

Hypertension is an insidious condition. It wears you down and you never get that Eureka feeling of I'm cured. You just feel a bit different from yesterday.

    Not very positive so far.

But I still believe stress and lack of exercise are part of the problem. I'll soon start my "rehab" program, we will see how it goes.

PS : toslti I had swollen legs too. My doctor gave me what he call the water pill. It's the third pill. I take half a day and it solved the problem.

For me its no symptoms at all except a splitting headache like my eyes were pulsing on Jan 1. I am 175 cent, weight 68 kilos and eat and exercise. Not as much exercise as I would like but enough.

They tried the water pills on me but I was peeing 30 times a day and stopped taking the half pill they were giving me.

I eat beetroot sometimes which is said to help .
a side effect is it might turn your pee a red colour but , as I have not experienced this I may already be dead or something..

The effect of the beetroot juice was most distinct three to six hours after it was consumed, but was still evident 24 hours later. The magic ingredient responsible for the impact on blood pressure is nitrate, with beetroots naturally containing high levels of this compound, and it performs its alchemy by increasing the levels of the gas nitric oxide in the circulation. The gas is said to relax and widen the blood vessels and thereby aid blood flow.

yup... I take one diuretic a day as well.... unfortunately one of the side effects of the tablets prescribed was water retention. Changed the tab and its much reduced now... hence the need to review meds.

Not convinced about stress to be honest.... lack of exercise.. yes, a definite but stress is so vague, intangible and varied that I feel it is just a catchall.

Classic BP indicators are a scrunchy neck when you roll your head. A feeling as if your jaw is set and taut, rear head headeaches (if that make sense) but other than that you don't really get any indicators which makes is so difficult to diagnose at onset.

You posters that are taking meds/pills for your HBP, can you please tell me the names of them?

    Just for my research.

Thanks, if you will do this.

    To the OP

(Testosterone Therapy and High Blood Pressure)

I don't know of your health or your age but i would look at this topic.
get your testosterone level tested, you most definitely will benefit from a shot or two once in a while.
