    Please clarify.
I just meant eating specific foods with health in mind. Have you seen any noticeable positive changes in your cholesterol or other bodily stats?
It's been a few years since I had tests. I had the blood checked about 1 1/2 ago.

Whether you have or haven't see evidence of health improvements I still think that what you are doing is a better way to live than the way most careless eaters like myself do. I hope to get into that way of eating in the future. I don't live a normal life right now at all but eventually things will be better.
As for improvements or not, I am just thinking long term.

Daily enjoyable Green Tea, Olive oil, Red Wine, garlic and such.

Might make a difference. If not, it's enjoyable.

    Cheers.

I found a shop in the local market that has lots of supplement capsules of things like cinnamon, Fah Ta lai jon, cummin, garlic, etc. I'm going to look into the various benefits of the spices in these. Only 50baht for 100 capsules.

I've heard a bit about the benefits of Omega 3 oils. Do you know what natural foods in Thailand would have high amounts of these oils? I don't have access to the downtown markets where you can buy imported nuts and seeds high in this oil. I guess some salt water fish or trout and salmon are high in this. Any knowledge of this Omega 3 and ways to get it through the offerings in everyday foods?

Sea fish is the best source.

You can buy eggs with Omega 3. Dr. Hen is the vendor. Maybe they feed fish oil to the chickens. Sometimes the eggs taste a bit fishy so I quit buying them.

Cod liver oil tablets are inexpensive here. Patar is one local maker available in most pharmacies.

I've heard about those eggs. I'll give it a go if they aren't too much more. As for the Cod liver oil, I wonder about those pills siting in this Thai heat. Most likely cooled by aircon during the day and left to heat up when the aircon is off at night.

With all due respect to posters that actually take this seriously, I think it's all pretty much bullshit.

I am 65. In my life, I have seen endless renditions of "X is good for you". Then three years later "X is bad for you." Take product X, it will add years to your life". Take supplements...drink green tea...drink coffee....don't drink coffee...don't drink....drink red wine.....vitamins are great....vitamins are bad.

Hereditary issues are a factor in my opinion. Smoking is bad for you. Do some exercise. Drop that extra 50 lbs.

Other than that - all things in moderation.

One of my best friends was the fittest guy I ever knew. Worked out - weights, swimming, running - every day of his life. Took handfuls of supplements, vitamins. Ate well. Did it all right. Died at 56 after a nasty three-year fight with pancreatic cancer.

Moderation.......when it's your time, they'll call your number.

the most interesting aspect for me
is what red wine does to the thinking process.
    rather cool.
where as whiskey takes me in another direction.
which is why i never bother with it
    tho it does taste good
the effect does me no good.
so red wine is my favourite.

    Davis,

Great post and I agree with you.

I don't follow these constantly changing and contradictory "studies." I don't consider these new finding adding value or a fad.

I agree that moderation is the way - in everything in life.

But having some of the natural things mentioned in this thread can add up to better health and seriously, for specific improvements for specific conditions.

Pre-diabetic friend of mine avoided all of the pharma-doc prescriptions and added cinnamon to his breakfast once a day. 2 teaspoons I believe. Blood sugars much better.

And yes, healthy & fit people die early too.

I've given my queue ticket to other people a few times when I got bored with waiting. Wonder if it would work on the grim reaper ?

Considering supplements is as silly as parents encouraging their kids to drink orange juice for vitamin C, right? It's true that genetics probably has a great power over our lifespan but our health can be changed by adding nutrients. Kids probably won't get scurvy but lacking nutrients can have affects on the quality of your life.

    Red wine makes you fine.
    Gin makes you sin.
    Brandy makes you randy.
    Whiskey makes you frisky.
    Rum makes you dumb.

The field of epigenetics developing rapidly. You can activate and de activate certain genes through lifestyle and nutition and its quite possible that the choices you make wll get passed down to your children and grandchildren.

The reversatrol and other elements in red wine, seems to be enough.

As Davis Knowlton so rightly points out, all these so-called supplements are entirely bogus and have no discernible effect upon the metabolism save an enrichment of one's piss.

Eating a balanced diet free from nasty processed fats etc is sufficient to maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, if you are genetically programmed in such a way that you are likely to develop illnesses then that's your lot. The body isn't geared up to absorbing these additional supplements and vitamins and simply just ignores them as they pass through the gut etc.

One of the best scams to ever hit the capitalist world was the sale of vitamins as health aids.

For some reason, I don't think scam and capitalism work. You should say one of the best products.

I guess vitamin A supplements to prevent blindness in some parts of the world are a scam, too. Those kids in the third world should just find more local foods to eat. What a waste of UN money!

only if you are lacking in something essential, otherwise it is pointless (I am assuming by nutrients you mean the pill form!)

and I agree with theGents, all a scam but people are still falling for it

    I agree with you, gent.

The supplement and vitamin industry has many dubious results from the research.

My focus is on red wine (I have 6-12 oz per day and am enjoying a glass now), Extra Virgin Olive Oil (just put that on my roasted chicken, Green Tea, Cinnamon, garlic and other good tasting and beneficial stuff.
