Thread: Favorite Bangkok River Front Restaurants

RAMA 3

If you come from just before Saphan Thaksin (Huge bridge), go to the left on the Rama 3 may be 2km then you will see few big building glued together, next to another pack of buildings this ones unfinished...

You will have to U-Turn to go inside the pack of finished buildings, there is a bank in front, plenty of park spaces inside the buildings,entrance just passed them, choose park space at end, you will be 50 meter away from the destination...

This restaurant on the river is pretty nice to see boats with heavy loads stopping nearby and passing...


The food is Thai, chinese, good and cheap...


But the explanation here may not help to many to reach this good place, sorry...

Should mention that there are 2 Yok-Yors, opposite River City, the YY Marina has a stage with shows and an indoors bar with dancing girls. Ferry service to/from River City and Taksin bridge.
There is a bbq-place by the river on the same stretch.

The Oriental at Riverside has excellent buffet dinner, on the river terrace, 1 k + and ++

no short pants allowed !

So what if I'd already had a few with the previous posts....

Actually the name is Ban Lim Nam and directions would be useless as I've always gone by taxi at night and usually had something other than "how to get there" on my mind. For those of you still chasing it is an impressive "date" for you and your lovely.

For those that like daylight dining, one of the 'must-do', at least in my book, is Sunday Brunch at the Bangkok Spa by Marriott on the other side of the river. You can take the skytrain to the last stop on the river's edge. Just below the station they run boats to the hotel. Very nice prelude to a great Sunday brunch.

I've eaten hotel buffets all over Asia and the Americas. Never have I seen one quite this impressive.

For starters, all you can eat and drink from 11:30 AM to 3 PM, reservations highly recommended, especially if you want to avail yourself of the outside seating which is very limited. (No smoking inside) This is NOT a flip flop and shorts experience, dress is casual but I didn't see any males in shorts and colarless shirts.

Cost is hefty, 1500 ++ but is well worth it.

Free drinks includes all soft/juice drinks, draft beer, wine and assorted cockails (think Singapore Sling and that ilk) and they are Johnnie-on-the-spot with refills etc., they actually carry trays of cocktails around through the tables for replenishments.

The cuisine covers the gamut from Thai, Chinese and all sorts of western, seafood, lamb, beef, and fish a truly impressive display. Of note: the only spot I've seen in Asia with an assortment of cheeses (I think I counted 9 varieties); 10 or 12 different breads and rolls; really fresh garden salad mixins; great fresh meats - I'm a lover of lamb chops and these were delightful, cooked to perfection in front of you on a large BBQ grill; Tbones and of course for the Brits a great roast of beef; fresh oysters on the half shell; an anti pasta that most Italian restaurants in Bangers should copy; equisite deserts and to finish off a white chocolate fountain where you dip you choice of fruits.

It is impossible to list everything, but these were some of the delicacies I noted. The service was impeccable matching the quality of the food. Not one of our group of 10 on the last trip had a complaint of any kind.

Not something to do every weekend, I do know of some that go regularly and try and establish new 'records' for cocktails drunk, but a great change of pace for those in and around Bangkok

Price should be similar, i do not remember... every lunch, every evening, not only sunday brunch...

there are a couple between the Grand Palace and the old Thammasat campus that are worth a visit.

Taxi taxi taxi...

For the Ban Lim Nam, ask any taxi driver they really do know the place. House on the river or House on the edge of the river should also get you there. It is also good to take a taxi here as there is very very minimal parking, narrow sois and just the pits to drive in.

Bankgok Spa at the Marriott is also well known by taxi drivers. Takes a round about route since they have to cross the bridge and wind around but they know it. Check the Marriott web site I believe they have a map.

and I bet 2-1 that the first taxi driver won't know it.

the bloke today couldn't even find my office which is somewaht conspicuous and well known.

As I said, Yok-Yor is opposite RiverCity, as I said earlier, which is near the Oriental, the district is Khlong San.

I don't know the name of the one near the hotel, but the hotel is Royal River, on the Thonburi side of KrungThon bridge.

Unless you've been taught Thai by an Isaanite, it's Baan Rim Naam.

And it's not bad as far as Thai places go.

There is a nice Thai place up by the Tewes ferry landing north of Banglampoo, that is the jetty near the plant and flower market - excellent fish dishes, atmosphere ok but not fancy. Bargain for the quality of the food.

^The Banglapoo stop of the river taxi is easy and cheap to get to.
The food is standard inexpensive thai. And the waitresses are very nice.!
I call that a hat trick! Three in one!

The restaurant I am thinking is on the left as you cross the Krung Thon Bridge. The Royal River Hotel is on the right as you cross the bridge.
I looked at Google maps and can see the roof of the restaurant next to the river , also the T shape of the Royal River Hotel close by.

No worries, it's just that when something is written in English it grates when it is named differently, as we are used to spelling things in a particular way, as written English is not generally phonetic.

I do agree that if you speak Isaan Thai, a taxi driver will understand you. Make an effort and roll those 'r's - you know it makes sense and you can get the locals laughing at you in the process.

Yea, they have never heard them before.
The pronounciation rules for Thais are:
If the word contains an L , just ignore it, it's a void letter.
Now, if the word contains an R (god forbid) then pronounce it as L.

FLOCK ME! boy did I screw the pooch on this one. With all the questions etc. on what or where the rest. was I made a quick side trip and picked up a business card this weekend. Sadly we didn't have enough time to enjoy the food again.

I will answer my own previous question. The restaurant that I was referring to next to the Krung Ton bridge is "River Front" Went there recently and enjoyed it.
