Anyone tried here yet:
The Crossbar
Shit web site but pub looks OK and is in a good location. Menu looks tempting also.
You know why.Originally Posted by peterpan

Interesting to see that old post, just moved to Bangkok and went to the Robin Hood, 1.5 months ago. The manager was doing nothing, and some lady in a blue shirt was standing behind the bar for 3 hours not moving !
Went back last week and there was a new Manager, let's hope it improves, cause it seems a nice place.
so whos watching the game today all blacks on and where is the best place to watch it....im off to the downunder in soi 23 whats beer prices like anyone know
Normal prices (80 to 90 Baht I think) for a bottle.Originally Posted by paulspad2002
I prefer to watch rugby at Wall Street on Soi 33 - happy hour prices are 90 or 95 baht a bottle. Sadly, I've got to meet up with that Pikey kunt Zehner this afternoon, so I'll not be there.
Nice? It's a soulless bar with no atmosphere, horrible food and the usual uninterested staff.Originally Posted by neilhawthorne
It needs a miracle, not a new manager.
mmmm i ended up going to the downunder in soi 23....not the huge screens they said on their site but heineklen was 100 baht a bottle they dont do draught...but manager seems pretyt cool and the food that kept pouring out from the kitchen upstairs was very nice looking with great portion size but was nver given a menu so 1 point for marketing.......overall a good atmosphere small and compact good service from the girls...not bad either......so im sure to go back sometime........of course as it was a nz test i had to go to something similar to a nz bar....
also marmite cheers for the message about where the best breakkie is im sure to check out a few of ur recommendations....the 2 egg string of bacon and half cold toast with one spoon of beams doesnt cut it for me..im after the full monty as u know and not some thai portion either.....am i right in saying that a lot of expats have forgotten what a good breakkie is or is it they have just become used to getting the small thai portions and deliver the same.....
Ive been in BKK for a few days this week staying at a friends gaff. As hes single his cooking utensils consist of a microwave, a small electric oven and about 2 plates so Ive been eating out and about in lovely smoggy Bangkok.
First morning I went to Chequersbangkok.com The British pub on Soi 4, Sukhumvit
Breakfast: Sausage, 2 eggs, 2 bacon, fried potato, mushrooms, fried bread, 2 toast and orange juice. I also had a cup of tea with it, my mate only had a cup of tea no brekkie.
Not bad taste wise and filling enough. Got the bill and it came to a whopping 320bt, I asked why and she said "because youve had 2 teas". I thought we had one but these cheeky fuckers dont include a tea with the breakfast so I got my fingers and toes out and came to the conclusion that a cup of tea costs 60bt. Now I think thats taking the piss, over a quid for a cup of tea. Staff were a bit ignorant as well, sorry girls I dont tip when you mutter stuff about "farang kii-niow" after matey on had a cha.
The next day I refused to go and pay 60bt for a drop of milk, 1 tea bag and hot water and went to Christophers Bar on Soi 7. I think this used to be called the Winking Frog or something equally daft. Here they had 3 different breakfasts an all day at 165, big breakfast 200bt, and a huge one at 300bt. I opted for the all day brekkie and was given a plate with
2 eggs, 3 bacon, beans, 1 big sausage, fried bread, bubble and squeak (yay!), 2 toast and a cup of tea (included in 165bt) . My mate once again had his cup of tea/no brekkie combo because hes a lightweight. Breakfast was very nice although the sausage was pre-cooked and reheated, maybe the bacon as well.
The staff in there were nice as well. Got the bill and once again for a tea on its own its 60bt, I havent been in BKK a lot recently so this must be a standard price for cups of tea in Bangkok nowadays. Much better value and a nicer place to eat breakfast than Chequers as Christophers has 4 or so decent size tables opposed to sitting at the bar at Chequers 1 table tea pisstake joint.
Bulls Head for dinner one night, I had Sausage, egg, chips and beans for about 190bt and a pint of Heineken to wash it down with. I think there must be a potato shortage in Bangkok as I got something like 9 chips, a few beans, 2 eggs and 2 sausages. It was standard Bulls Head, food OK staff seem scared shitless unless youre a regular and they know you by name and 150bt for a pint of Heineken. I know Im in a city and an English pub, but nearly £3 for a pint of piss weak Heiny is bordering on robbery.
I'll be going back to Christophers if Im in BKK again for brekky, Chequers can kiss my hairy arse as I will never spend another baht in there and The Bulls Head I'll take my own water next time just to piss them off.

** Major overhaul to the entire OP**
** Need to add Gulliver's & the Shamrock on Khao San Road; Bobby's Arms (Erawan); Tawan Dang (Rama III); Crossbar Pub (info) & Bully's (Nana).
Any additional info from TD members will be added to the OP upon receipt.
Good update. One slight correction, Cheap Charlies is on Soi 11 not 7/1.
A few other additions could include The Australian on Suk Soi 11, Man Utd bar on the same soi (if it's still open?!) and Det 5 on Soi 8.
Also you mention that The Dublinner has good food - this is inaccurate as the food is awful.

There's a plethora of horrible soulless British style bars polluting Bangkok now; The Sportsman (yuk), The Pickled Liver and the Penalty Spot are three off the top of my head.
all of which serve for chaep piss whilst watching sport and 2 of the 3 are far from soulless as they get more than their fair share of regularsOriginally Posted by Beadle

Feel free to scribble something down and I will add it to the OP. I've not lived in Bangkok for about a year, so it's unlikely I'll visit any of them soon. Not too bothered about the Wank Utd bar mind...Originally Posted by dantilley
I like their breakfast and the fact they have an interesting choice of burger. Never had a bad meal there.Originally Posted by dantilley

I agree, The Dubliner has to have one of the best English breakfast's in town. And if PaulSpad2002 is looking for a hearty well sized portion I'd recommend it. Let's see if he can finish their full monte!Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog
Dunno about BKK but Tops stock real Marmite here in Phuket -379 baht for 250 gm jar !
That's nice. Anything to add about Bangkok pubs?Originally Posted by Happyman
